The crisp chill of December settled over Hogwarts, transforming the castle into a winter wonderland. Snow blanketed the grounds, and the Great Hall was adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations. The anticipation of the Christmas holidays added a buzz of excitement to the air, even as the weight of N.E.W.T. preparations loomed large.

Eliza, despite her exhaustion, was determined to participate in the Marauders' latest prank-a daring plan to turn the Slytherin common room into a festive explosion of Gryffindor colours. The idea had been concocted during one of their late-night strategy sessions, fueled by hot cocoa and a shared desire to spread some holiday cheer-or, in this case, chaos.

"Alright, here's the plan," James said, his eyes gleaming with mischief as he laid out the details. "We'll sneak into the Slytherin common room tonight. Sirius, you'll handle the enchantments on the walls. Remus, you're on tree duty. Peter, you'll take care of the presents. And Eliza and I will make sure the lights are absolutely spectacular."

Eliza nodded, her smile genuine despite the dark circles under her eyes. "Sounds perfect. Let's make this the best Christmas prank ever."

Sirius, always perceptive, shot her a concerned look. "You sure you're up for this, Eliza? You've been looking really worn out lately."

She waved off his concern with a tired smile. "I'm fine, Sirius. This is exactly what I need-a bit of fun to take my mind off things."

That night, the Marauders and Eliza crept through the castle under the cover of the Invisibility Cloak. The cold air bit at their skin, but the thrill of the prank kept their spirits high. They reached the entrance to the Slytherin common room, and with a few whispered spells, they were inside.

The transformation began. Sirius enchanted the walls to shimmer with Gryffindor red and gold, the colors pulsating in a festive rhythm. Remus conjured a massive Christmas tree, adorned with glittering baubles and enchanted candles that flickered warmly. Peter scurried around, placing wrapped presents under the tree, each box enchanted to burst into festive confetti when opened. James and Eliza worked together to string enchanted lights across the ceiling, the lights twinkling in time with a cheerful holiday tune.

As they worked, Eliza's exhaustion became more apparent. She stumbled once, catching herself against a chair. Remus, always watchful, was at her side in an instant.

"Eliza, maybe you should sit down for a bit," he suggested gently, his worry clear in his eyes.

She shook her head, determination etched on her face. "I'm okay, Remus. Just need to finish these lights."

But even as she spoke, her hands trembled with fatigue. James noticed and exchanged a worried glance with Sirius. "Eliza, you're running on fumes. Take a break, please."

Reluctantly, she agreed and sank into a nearby armchair, her body sagging with relief. Sirius draped a Gryffindor-colored blanket over her, his usual playful demeanor replaced with concern.

"Just rest for a bit. We've got this," he said softly.

Eliza watched through half-lidded eyes as her friends continued the prank, their movements quick and efficient. Despite her exhaustion, a warmth spread through her chest, not just from the festive decorations but from the unwavering support of her friends.

When the transformation was complete, the Slytherin common room was unrecognizable. It was a glorious explosion of Gryffindor pride, and the Marauders couldn't help but admire their handiwork.

"Severus is going to lose his mind," Peter snickered, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.

James grinned. "Merry Christmas, Slytherins."

They quickly made their way back to the Gryffindor common room, their laughter echoing through the silent halls. Once safely inside, they collapsed into their usual armchairs by the fire, their faces flushed with cold and triumph.

Eliza, despite her exhaustion, felt a sense of accomplishment and belonging. She leaned her head against Remus's shoulder, her eyes heavy with sleep.

"Thank you," she murmured. "For everything."

Remus wrapped an arm around her, his touch gentle. "Always, Eliza. We're in this together."

As she drifted off to sleep, surrounded by the warmth and love of her friends, the nightmares that usually plagued her were kept at bay. For the first time in a long while, Eliza felt a glimmer of hope-a reminder that, no matter how dark the nights might be, the light of friendship and love would always guide her through.
