Dawn had barely broken when a soft knock echoed through the Potter residence, disturbing the quiet equilibrium that had settled over the household. James, already awake and restless, hurried to the door, his heart pounding with anticipation and concern. Peering through the peephole, he saw a familiar figure-Remus, his expression taut with worry, his eyes scanning the house for any sign of his friends.

James swung the door open, and without a word, Remus stepped inside, his gaze immediately searching for Sirius and Eliza. "How is she?" Remus asked, his voice strained with urgency.

"She's here, not fully alright but safe," James replied, leading him to the living room where Sirius was sitting by Eliza's side, holding her hand. The sight of Eliza, pale and visibly weakened, yet safe in the warmth of the room, brought a complex mix of relief and anger to Remus's features.

Eliza, sensing Remus's arrival, attempted to sit up straighter, a faint smile gracing her lips. "Remus," she said softly, reaching out her hand towards him.

Remus quickly crossed the room, taking her hand gently in his. "Eliza, I got here as soon as I could. Sirius told me everything," he said, his eyes scanning her face for signs of the pain she must have endured. "Are you alright?"

"I'm okay, Remus. Really, I am," Eliza assured him, though her voice held a slight tremble. "Just tired."

Sirius shifted uncomfortably, his eyes dark with unspoken guilt for not having been able to protect her sooner. "She's been through a lot, Moony. But she's strong."

Remus nodded, sitting down on the other side of Eliza. He brushed a loose strand of hair back from her face, his touch tender and protective. "We're all here for you now. No one's going to hurt you again."

The four friends spent the morning catching up, with James and Remus listening intently as Sirius recounted the more detailed events of their escape. The conversation was occasionally punctuated by lighter moments, trying to ease the heavy atmosphere that the seriousness of their situation imposed.

Mrs. Potter soon joined them with a tray of breakfast foods, insisting that everyone eat. Her maternal instinct took over as she fussed over Eliza, making sure she had enough pillows and was comfortable. "You all need to keep your strength up," she said, her tone brooking no argument.

As they ate, the group discussed their immediate plans and the need to stay vigilant. They talked about contacting Dumbledore to inform him of the situation and to seek his advice on how to proceed. The reality of their circumstances was harsh, but within the safety of the Potter home, they found a temporary reprieve.

Throughout the day, Remus stayed close to Eliza, his presence a comforting constant as she navigated her recovery. They spoke in low tones about their fears and hopes, reaffirming their commitment to each other amidst the chaos that surrounded them.

As night fell, the household settled down, the fire in the hearth casting a soft glow across the room. The Marauders, though weary, shared a sense of solidarity that had only been strengthened by the trials they had faced. They knew the road ahead would be fraught with challenges, but together, they felt prepared to meet whatever lay ahead with courage and unwavering support for one another.
