As the full moon approached, an air of anticipation and unease settled over the Marauders and Eliza. They knew the routine well-transforming into their Animagus forms to accompany Remus during his monthly transformation into Moony. This night, however, felt different. There was an added tension, a heightened sense of protectiveness emanating from Remus, who was already showing signs of his impending change.
The night was clear and cold as they gathered near the Shrieking Shack, the moon casting a silvery glow over the landscape. Eliza stood close to Remus, her hand gently squeezing his. "We'll be with you every step of the way," she whispered, her voice steady despite the anxiety gnawing at her.
Remus nodded, his eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and determination. "I know. And I'll do my best to stay in control."
James, Sirius, and Peter transformed first, their Animagus forms ready to support and protect their friend. James, now a majestic stag, nodded encouragingly at Remus, his antlers catching the moonlight. Sirius, as a massive black dog, barked softly, while Peter, in his small rat form, scurried about, ever vigilant.
Eliza transformed last, her white wolf form-Snowy-standing beside Remus, who had just completed his painful transformation into Moony. The bond between them was palpable, a silent understanding that had grown stronger with each full moon.
As they began their nocturnal journey, it became clear that Moony was more protective than usual. His amber eyes flickered with a wild intensity as he kept Snowy close, his growls low and menacing whenever James, Sirius, or Peter got too near.
James, as Prongs, approached cautiously, his eyes questioning. "Moony, it's just us," he said, though his voice came out as a series of concerned snorts and grunts.
Moony bared his teeth, positioning himself between Snowy and the others, his growls deepening. Snowy, sensing his agitation, nudged him gently, trying to calm him down.
Sirius, as Padfoot, approached next, his tail wagging cautiously. "Easy, Moony. We're all friends here."
But Moony's instincts were in overdrive. He snapped at Padfoot, his jaws closing just short of the dog's snout. Padfoot backed off, his eyes wide with surprise and concern.
Snowy stepped in front of Moony, her eyes meeting his with a calming gaze. She let out a series of soft whines, trying to reassure him. Moony's growls softened, but his stance remained tense and protective.
Peter, still in his small rat form, scampered up to Prongs and squeaked anxiously. "What's gotten into him? He's never been this protective before."
Prongs shook his head, his antlers glinting in the moonlight. "I don't know, but we need to be careful. Let's keep our distance and give him space."
They continued through the forest, maintaining a careful distance from Moony and Snowy. The night was filled with the sounds of rustling leaves and the occasional distant howl. Moony's protectiveness did not wane; every sound, every movement, made him growl and bare his teeth, ready to defend Snowy against any perceived threat.
As the night wore on, they found a quiet clearing where Moony finally seemed to relax a little, allowing Snowy to move slightly away from him. She approached Prongs and Padfoot cautiously, her eyes filled with concern.
"He's so different tonight," Snowy said, her voice a mix of worry and confusion.
Prongs nodded. "It's like he's in overdrive, protecting you from everything."
Padfoot barked softly. "We just need to be patient. He'll calm down eventually."
They kept their distance for the rest of the night, ensuring Moony and Snowy had the space they needed. When the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, the transformation began to reverse. Remus, exhausted and panting, collapsed onto the ground. Eliza, back in her human form, rushed to his side, cradling his head in her lap.
"You did great, Remus," she whispered, brushing the hair from his forehead. "You kept us all safe."
Remus looked up at her, his eyes filled with a mix of relief and guilt. "I'm sorry if I scared any of you," he murmured weakly. "I couldn't help it."
James, Sirius, and Peter, now back in their human forms, approached cautiously. "You didn't scare us," James said gently. "We're just glad you're okay."
Sirius knelt beside them, his expression softening. "We understand, Moony. We'll always understand."
Peter nodded, his eyes wide with sincerity. "We're in this together, no matter what."
Eliza helped Remus to his feet, wrapping an arm around his waist to support him. "Let's get you back to the castle. You need to rest."
As they made their way back, the first rays of the sun casting a golden glow over the forest, the bond between them felt stronger than ever. They had faced the challenges of the full moon together, and despite the protectiveness and tension, their friendship and loyalty had seen them through. Eliza felt a renewed sense of hope and determination, knowing that with her friends by her side, she could face anything that came their way.
