The full moon cast an ethereal glow over the Forbidden Forest, its silver light filtering through the thick canopy of trees. The Marauders, fully prepared for the night ahead, made their way into the woods, their breath visible in the cool night air. Remus, feeling the familiar tug of the transformation, glanced at Eliza, his eyes filled with both concern and affection.
"Ready?" he asked, his voice a low murmur.
Eliza nodded, her hand squeezing his briefly. "Always."
As the transformation overtook Remus, his form shifting into that of the formidable werewolf Moony, Eliza's own body began to change. She felt the familiar pull of her Animagus transformation, becoming the sleek white wolf, Snowy. The others-James as Prongs the stag, Sirius as Padfoot the dog, and Peter as Wormtail the rat-watched with practised ease, ready to assist if needed.
Moony's amber eyes locked onto Snowy the moment her transformation was complete. A low, protective growl rumbled in his chest as he moved closer to her, his body a barrier between her and the others. Snowy nuzzled him gently, calming his initial tension.
The group began their usual patrol of the forest, keeping a steady pace through the underbrush. Moony's senses were on high alert, every rustle of leaves and snap of a twig causing his ears to twitch and his eyes to scan the surroundings. Snowy stayed close, her presence a calming influence on him.
Prongs led the way, his antlers catching the moonlight as he navigated through the trees. Padfoot and Wormtail flanked the sides, their eyes and ears alert for any potential threats. However, they soon realized that Moony's protectiveness over Snowy had intensified since their last full moon together.
As Padfoot approached Snowy to check on her, Moony's growl deepened, a warning in his eyes. He positioned himself between Snowy and Padfoot, his stance clearly protective.
"Easy there, Moony," Padfoot barked softly, taking a cautious step back. "We're all friends here."
Snowy nudged Moony gently, her soft whine calming him slightly. Moony's growl subsided, but his eyes remained wary, his protective instincts on high alert.
Prongs approached cautiously, lowering his head in a non-threatening manner. "We're just making sure she's alright, Moony," he said, his voice calm and reassuring.
Moony's eyes flicked to Prongs, his growl turning into a low rumble, but he didn't make any aggressive moves. Snowy's presence seemed to soothe him, her calm demeanor acting as a balm to his heightened senses.
Wormtail, always the most nervous of the group, kept his distance, his small body quivering slightly. "Is he... always this protective now?" he squeaked, glancing at Prongs and Padfoot.
"It's been getting stronger," Padfoot admitted, his eyes still on Moony. "Ever since that last full moon when he ran off with her."
Snowy moved closer to Moony, her soft fur brushing against his. She licked his muzzle gently, a gesture of reassurance. Moony's tense posture relaxed slightly, though his eyes never left his friends.
The night continued with Moony's vigilance unwavering. Every so often, he would growl softly when one of the others got too close to Snowy, his protective instincts clearly in overdrive. Despite this, the night passed without incident, the group working seamlessly together to ensure Moony's transformation went smoothly.
As the first light of dawn began to filter through the trees, the transformations reversed. Remus, now back to his human form, looked exhausted but relieved. Snowy turned back into Eliza, her eyes meeting Remus's with understanding and affection.
"Moony was... very protective tonight," Prongs said, his voice light but his eyes serious.
Remus nodded, a hint of guilt in his expression. "I'm sorry if he scared you. I don't know why he's been so intense lately."
Padfoot shrugged, giving Remus a reassuring smile. "It's alright, mate. We understand. He's just looking out for Snowy."
Eliza smiled softly, placing a hand on Remus's arm. "It's sweet, really. He just wants to keep me safe."
Remus's eyes softened, his guilt easing at her words. "I just worry he'll hurt someone by accident."
"He won't," Prongs assured him. "We know how to handle him, and we trust you both."
The group made their way back to the castle, the early morning light casting long shadows on the ground. As they entered the common room, the fatigue from the night's events began to set in. Remus and Eliza found themselves gravitating towards each other, seeking comfort in their shared experience.
"Are you alright?" Remus asked, his voice soft as he looked at Eliza.
"I'm okay," she replied, though the exhaustion was evident in her eyes. "Just tired."
"Let's get some rest," Sirius suggested, his protective instincts still in overdrive. "We'll all feel better after some sleep."
Remus nodded, guiding Eliza towards one of the couches in the common room. They settled down together, the warmth of the fire providing a soothing backdrop to their exhaustion. Within moments, Eliza had fallen asleep, her head resting on Remus's shoulder.
James, Sirius, and Peter watched over them, their expressions a mixture of concern and affection. The bond between them was unbreakable, forged through years of shared experiences and unwavering support.
"We'll get through this," James said softly, his eyes on his friends. "Together."
Sirius nodded, his gaze on his sister and his best friend. "Always."
As the common room filled with the soft sounds of their breathing, the Marauders knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, their friendship and loyalty a beacon of hope in the darkness.
