The Hogwarts Express eventually rolled to a stop at Hogsmeade Station, releasing a flood of eager students onto the platform. The Marauders and Eliza joined the throng, their anticipation palpable as they made their way towards the horseless carriages awaiting them.

Leading the group, James and Sirius animatedly discussed Quidditch tactics and potential pranks for the upcoming year. Remus walked beside Eliza, their steps in sync as they navigated through the bustling crowd.

Eliza, however, seemed quieter than usual. Her mind drifted back to a harrowing incident over the summer when she had been targeted by a dark wizard. Orion, a follower of Voldemort, had subjected her to the Cruciatus Curse, leaving scars that ran deeper than the physical.

Sirius, perceptive as ever, noticed Eliza's subdued demeanor. He exchanged a knowing glance with Remus, silently acknowledging their concern for her. But respecting Eliza's desire for privacy, Sirius held back from pressing the issue until she was ready to talk.

As they approached the carriages, the towering figures of the Thestrals came into view, their skeletal wings glinting in the moonlight. James clapped his hands together with excitement. "Ah, I've missed these creatures!"

Sirius chuckled, his eyes darting between Eliza and Remus. "Eliza, fancy a ride with these lovely beasts?"

Eliza managed a faint smile, appreciating Sirius's attempt to lighten the mood. "Maybe next time, Sirius. I think I'll stick with the carriages for now."

They climbed into the carriages, the crisp night air tingling with excitement as they ascended towards Hogwarts Castle. The rhythmic clip-clop of the Thestral hooves echoed against the cobblestones, blending with the distant hum of excited chatter from the students.

As they drew closer to the castle, its silhouette became more defined against the darkening sky. The warm glow from its windows beckoned them home, promising sanctuary amidst the looming shadows of the Forbidden Forest and the mysteries concealed within its ancient walls.

Inside the carriage, the atmosphere was a mix of anticipation and relief. James and Sirius continued their banter, brainstorming pranks that would surpass even their previous escapades. Peter chimed in nervously, suggesting less daring alternatives that elicited good-natured chuckles from the group.

Remus sat beside Eliza, his expression gentle yet concerned. He leaned closer, his voice barely above a whisper. "Are you sure you're okay?"

Eliza met his gaze, her eyes reflecting a mixture of gratitude and apprehension. "I will be," she murmured. "Just need some time to adjust, I suppose."

Remus nodded understandingly, squeezing her hand reassuringly. "We're here for you, Eliza. Always."

The carriage rolled to a stop at the castle entrance, and they stepped out onto the familiar grounds of Hogwarts. The air was alive with the scent of magic and the promise of new beginnings. Eliza took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenges ahead while finding comfort in the steadfast presence of her friends.

Together, they made their way through the grand entrance hall, greeted warmly by the enchanted ceiling above and the murmurs of portraits lining the walls. The Great Hall awaited them with its long tables adorned with golden plates and goblets, ready to host the Sorting Ceremony and reunite them with their Hogwarts family.

As they settled into their seats at the Gryffindor table, Eliza's gaze wandered over the familiar faces of her peers, finding solace in their shared journey. The Sorting Hat began its age-old song, and the first-years filed in nervously behind Professor McGonagall.

James leaned over, excitement gleaming in his eyes. "Can you believe we're back, ready for another year of mischief and magic?"

Sirius grinned mischievously. "I've got a feeling this year is going to be legendary."

Remus glanced at Eliza, his smile warm and reassuring. "Whatever happens, we'll face it together."

Eliza returned his smile, her heart lighter knowing she wasn't alone in her struggles. Hogwarts was more than just a school-it was their home, a place where friendships were forged in the crucible of adversity and where magic thrived in the hearts of those who believed.

As the Sorting Hat's final verse echoed through the Great Hall, Eliza raised her goblet in a silent toast. To new beginnings, she thought, and the strength to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
