The Hogwarts Express chugged along the tracks, carrying Eliza and Sirius Black back towards London, back towards Grimmauld Place, back towards the looming shadows of their family's expectations. The air in their compartment felt heavier than the usual excitement that filled the train at the start of term. Eliza stared out the window, her thoughts a tumultuous whirlpool of apprehension and resignation.
Sirius, sitting across from her, could sense her unease. He had always been attuned to his twin sister's emotions, and this time was no different. He watched her in silence for a while, the clatter of the train's wheels on the tracks providing a steady backdrop to their thoughts.
"Liz," Sirius finally broke the silence, his voice soft but firm, "we'll manage. We always do."
Eliza turned to him, her eyes betraying the turmoil within. "But Sirius, you know how they are. They'll be even angrier after what we did this year."
Sirius nodded grimly, remembering the confrontations and punishments they had faced after each holiday break. Their parents' disappointment had been palpable, their disapproval an oppressive weight that hung over Grimmauld Place like a shroud.
"We stick together," Sirius asserted, his jaw set with determination. "No matter what they say or do, we stick together."
Eliza managed a weak smile, grateful for her brother's steadfast resolve. Together, they had always been stronger. It was a bond forged in the fires of family expectations and shared trials, a bond that had sustained them through the darkest of times.
As the train rolled on, Sirius shifted the conversation to lighter topics, recounting anecdotes from their time at Hogwarts, reminiscing about the pranks they had pulled and the friendships they had forged. Eliza listened, her heart lightening slightly with each shared memory, each moment of laughter and camaraderie they had experienced.
When the Hogwarts Express finally pulled into King's Cross Station, the platform was bustling with families and students eager to reunite after the summer break. Eliza and Sirius disembarked, their trunks floating behind them, and made their way through the crowd towards the familiar figure of their parents.
Walburga Black's face was a mask of disapproval, her eyes narrowing as she took in her children's appearance. Orion Black stood beside her, his posture rigid and imposing. Eliza felt her pulse quicken, her anxiety flaring anew as they approached.
"Sirius. Eliza," Walburga's voice was cold and clipped, her gaze piercing. "You will behave appropriately this summer. There will be consequences if you do not."
Sirius squared his shoulders, his expression unreadable as he nodded curtly. "Yes, Mother."
Eliza fought to keep her composure, her gaze flickering briefly to Sirius for reassurance. They had faced this before, and they would face it again. Together.
As they made their way back to Grimmauld Place, the weight of their parents' expectations settled around them like a suffocating cloak. But amidst the shadows, amidst the fear and uncertainty, Eliza found solace in the unwavering presence of her twin brother by her side. Together, they would endure. Together, they would survive.
And as they stepped through the threshold of their ancestral home, Eliza silently vowed that no matter what challenges lay ahead, Hogwarts would always be their sanctuary, their refuge from the storm.
