The Hogwarts Express chugged along, its rhythmic clatter filling the compartment where the Marauders sat, bathed in the golden light streaming through the windows. James Potter, his untidy hair matching the mischievous gleam in his eyes, leaned forward with infectious enthusiasm.

"I've been dreaming up some brilliant pranks over the summer," James declared, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. "Maybe we could-"

"Prank McGonagall's office again?" Sirius Black interrupted with a grin, reclining comfortably, one arm draped over the back of the seat. "She's bound to have strengthened those anti-jinx wards after last time."

Remus Lupin chuckled, adjusting the strap of his book bag over his shoulder. "I think we should aim for something a bit less risky this year. We don't want to start off with detentions right away."

Peter Pettigrew, seated nervously, fidgeted with the hem of his robes. "I agree with Remus. And let's hope we don't have another run-in with Filch."

Eliza, nestled close to Remus, listened with amusement to their banter. She nudged Remus gently with her elbow. "You're the voice of reason, Remus. But admit it, you secretly love the chaos."

Remus grinned back at her, warmth in his eyes. "Maybe just a little."

As the train continued its journey, the conversation drifted from pranks to summer escapades. James recounted the latest Quidditch tactics he'd been practicing with the team, Sirius shared tales of adventures from his family's estate, and Peter nervously recounted how he'd helped his mother in their garden, trying out simple charms.

Eliza spoke less about her summer, her thoughts often wandering back to a distressing incident that had cast a shadow over her break. She kept her gaze on the passing scenery outside, the vibrant greens and blues blurring into streaks of color as the train sped on.

Remus noticed her quiet demeanor, his concern growing. He squeezed her hand gently under the cover of their conversation. "You seem a bit distant, Eliza. Everything alright?"

Eliza forced a smile, grateful for Remus's attentiveness. "Just thinking about everything waiting for us at Hogwarts, I guess."

Remus nodded, knowing there was more beneath her words. He made a mental note to talk to Sirius later, sensing his friend might have a clue about what troubled Eliza. Sirius, perceptive as he was, always had a knack for understanding people's unspoken worries.

The train rattled on, the afternoon sun casting long shadows through the windows, painting the compartment in warm hues. Amidst the laughter and banter, Remus stole glances at Eliza, his heart swelling with affection. He admired the way she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a gentle reminder of the bond they shared and the unspoken support they offered each other.
