The crisp morning air was filled with the promise of snow as Hogwarts students woke to another magical day during the holiday break. Despite it being just one week since Eliza's collapse, she insisted she was feeling much better. Determined to enjoy the season, she had eagerly agreed to Remus's plan for a snowy Christmas date.

Remus bundled Eliza up warmly in her favorite woolen cloak, wrapping a matching scarf around her neck and tucking a pair of cozy mittens into her hands. "Are you sure you're up for this?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.

Eliza smiled, her cheeks already flushed with excitement. "Absolutely. I need some fresh air and a bit of fun. Plus, a date with you sounds perfect."

They left the castle grounds, making their way towards the Black Lake, which was now surrounded by snow-covered trees and shimmering icicles. The world seemed transformed into a winter wonderland, the soft crunch of snow beneath their boots the only sound in the serene landscape.

Remus led Eliza to a spot where they could see the entirety of the frozen lake. He had prepared a small picnic area with a blanket and a basket filled with warm treats. They settled down, and Remus poured them both hot chocolate from a thermos, the steam rising into the cold air.

"This is beautiful," Eliza said, looking out over the lake. "Thank you, Remus. I needed this."

Remus smiled warmly, his heart swelling with love. "I thought it might be a nice change of pace. Plus, I get to spend the day with you."

They spent the next few hours talking and laughing, making snow angels and playfully tossing snowballs at each other. Remus's heart lightened at the sight of Eliza's genuine smiles and laughter, knowing how much she had been through recently.

As the afternoon sun began to dip towards the horizon, casting a golden glow over the snow, they decided to head back to the castle. Eliza, worn out from their fun, leaned heavily on Remus as they walked.

"Maybe I did overdo it a bit," she admitted with a sheepish smile.

Remus wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "It's alright. You had fun, and that's what matters. Let's get you back inside and warmed up."

Once they reached the dormitory, Eliza could barely keep her eyes open. Remus gently helped her out of her cloak and scarf, guiding her to his bed. She lay down, and within moments, she was fast asleep, her breathing soft and even.

Remus watched her for a moment, a tender smile on his lips. He carefully tucked a blanket around her before turning to find James sitting in the armchair, a knowing look in his eyes.

"She's going to be alright, Moony," James said softly, his voice full of reassurance.

Remus nodded, sinking into the chair opposite James. "I know. She's stronger than she realizes."

There was a brief silence before James leaned forward, curiosity evident on his face. "So, what's on your mind, Remus?"

Remus took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I've been thinking about the future a lot lately. With everything that's been happening, I realized how important it is to hold on to the people we love."

James nodded, encouraging him to continue.

Remus glanced over at Eliza, her peaceful form giving him the courage to speak his heart. "I'm planning to ask Sirius for his permission to marry Eliza."

James's eyes widened with excitement, a broad grin spreading across his face. "That's brilliant, Remus! She'll be over the moon. But, are you sure you're ready for this step?"

Remus nodded resolutely. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life. Eliza means everything to me, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. But I know how protective Sirius is of her, especially after what she's been through. I want to do this right."

James clapped a hand on Remus's shoulder, his grin unwavering. "Sirius will understand. He wants what's best for Eliza, and that's you. You have my full support, mate. And when you do ask him, I'll be there for you."

Remus felt a surge of gratitude and relief at James's words. "Thanks, Prongs. It means a lot to me."

They sat in comfortable silence for a while, each lost in their thoughts. The flickering fire cast a warm glow over the room, creating a sense of peace amidst the uncertainty of their future.

As the night wore on, James and Remus continued to talk quietly, their conversation drifting from their plans for the future to the lighter moments they had shared over the years. Remus felt a renewed sense of hope and determination. Despite the darkness looming on the horizon, he knew that with friends like James, Sirius, and Peter, and with Eliza by his side, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Finally, as the fire dwindled and the castle grew silent, James stood up and stretched. "I'm going to head to bed. You should get some rest too, Remus. We've got a big day tomorrow."

Remus nodded, glancing once more at Eliza before settling into his own bed. "Goodnight, James."

"Goodnight, Moony."

As the dormitory fell into a peaceful silence, Remus felt a sense of contentment wash over him. He closed his eyes, knowing that tomorrow would bring new challenges and opportunities. But for now, he was surrounded by the people he loved, and that was enough.

With Eliza sleeping soundly beside him, Remus drifted off into a restful sleep, dreams of a bright future with Eliza filling his mind. The path ahead might be uncertain, but with love and friendship as their guiding lights, Remus knew they would find their way.
