Eliza's nightmares showed no sign of abating. Every night, she was haunted by the memories of the Cruciatus curse, waking in a cold sweat, her heart racing. Despite Madam Pomfrey's best efforts and the support of her friends, restful sleep remained elusive. Dark circles framed her eyes, and her once-bright demeanor had dimmed.
Dumbledore, ever perceptive and compassionate, recognized the toll these sleepless nights were taking on Eliza. During a private meeting with her, Remus, and Sirius, he suggested a solution that might provide her with some comfort and security.
"Given your current situation, Eliza," Dumbledore said gently, "I believe it might be best for you to move into the Marauder's dormitory. Being close to your friends, those who understand and support you could offer some relief from your night terrors."
Eliza glanced at Remus and Sirius, both of whom nodded encouragingly. "If you think it will help," she replied softly, her voice tinged with exhaustion.
That evening, with Dumbledore's permission, Eliza moved her belongings into the Marauder's dormitory. They made space for her beside Remus's bed, arranging her things to create a small, cozy nook. Although she had her own bed, she often found herself seeking the comfort of her twin or her boyfriend, needing their presence to ward off the nightmares.
The first night in the new dorm, Eliza tossed and turned, the shadows of her past creeping into her dreams. She woke with a start, her body trembling. Before she could fully process her surroundings, Remus was at her side, his hand gently brushing her hair from her face.
"Another nightmare?" he asked softly, his voice filled with concern.
Eliza nodded, tears glistening in her eyes. "I just can't seem to escape them, Remus."
He pulled her into his arms, offering silent comfort. "You're safe here, Eliza. We're all here for you."
Sirius, awakened by the commotion, joined them, his protective instincts kicking in. "Do you want to sleep here with us?" he asked, patting the space between him and Remus.
Eliza hesitated for a moment before nodding. "If you don't mind."
"Of course we don't," Sirius replied, his tone firm yet caring. "We'll do whatever it takes to help you get through this."
The three of them settled back into the bed, Eliza nestled between her brother and her boyfriend. Their presence, combined with the rhythmic sound of their breathing, gradually lulled her back to sleep. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it was a step toward finding some semblance of peace.
Over the following weeks, Eliza's move into the Marauder's dormitory became a new normal. Each night, they created a safe haven for her, ensuring she was never alone when the nightmares struck. James and Peter, understanding the gravity of the situation, provided unwavering support, always ready with a kind word or a distraction.
One night, as they gathered in the common room after a particularly difficult day of classes, James turned to Eliza with a determined look. "We're going to beat this, Eliza. We'll find a way to make those nightmares stop."
Eliza managed a faint smile, touched by their unwavering loyalty. "Thank you, James. It means a lot."
Peter, who had been quietly listening, added, "You've been there for us so many times, Eliza. It's only right that we're here for you now."
Sirius wrapped an arm around her shoulders, his eyes fierce with protectiveness. "You're our family, Eliza. And we take care of our own."
Eliza's eyes welled with tears, not of sorrow but of gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you all," she whispered.
Remus squeezed her hand, his voice gentle but resolute. "You'll never have to find out. We're in this together, every step of the way."
As the weeks turned into months, the Marauders continued to rally around Eliza, their bond growing stronger with each passing day. The nightmares still came, but surrounded by the love and support of her friends, Eliza began to find the strength to face them. She was still exhausted, but the weight of her burden was a little lighter, knowing she wasn't carrying it alone.
