The Hogwarts Dueling Club was abuzz with excitement as students gathered around the dueling platform, eager to witness another bout between James Potter and Sirius Black. The duo's rivalry had become legendary within the castle walls, their skill with wands and quick wit making them crowd favorites.
James stood on one end of the platform, his wand held confidently in his hand, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Ready to lose, Padfoot?" he called out, a grin spreading across his face.
Sirius stepped forward to meet him, his own wand poised for action. "In your dreams, Prongs," he retorted, matching James's grin with one of his own.
The crowd murmured with anticipation as the duel began. Spells flew back and forth between the two friends, each countering the other's moves with expert precision. Spectators cheered and gasped as sparks of light illuminated the air, creating a dazzling display of magical prowess.
Meanwhile, across the room, Remus and Eliza observed the duel from a distance. Since they had started dating, their interactions had subtly changed—fleeting touches, shared glances, and a deeper understanding that escaped the notice of their friends, at least for now.
Remus leaned closer to Eliza, his voice low. "They never seem to tire of these duels."
Eliza nodded, her eyes fixed on Sirius and James. "It's like a friendly competition that never ends."
"They're both so skilled," Remus remarked, admiration evident in his voice.
Eliza smiled softly. "That they are."
As the duel progressed, Sirius and James continued to trade spells with increasing intensity. The air crackled with magic as they maneuvered around the platform, their movements fluid and calculated. Each was determined to outwit the other, but their duels always ended in laughter and camaraderie, regardless of the outcome.
Nearby, Peter watched with rapt attention, occasionally shouting encouragement to his friends. He marveled at their skill and camaraderie, feeling fortunate to be a part of their tight-knit group.
"They're incredible," Peter muttered to himself, a grin spreading across his face.
James managed to disarm Sirius with a well-timed Expelliarmus, causing Sirius's wand to fly out of his hand and clatter onto the platform. The crowd erupted into cheers as James held his wand triumphantly in the air.
"Nice one, Prongs!" Sirius laughed, retrieving his wand from the ground.
James grinned, extending a hand to help Sirius up. "You put up a good fight, Padfoot."
Sirius accepted the hand, pulling himself to his feet with a playful smirk. "Until next time, then?"
"Absolutely," James agreed, clapping Sirius on the shoulder.
As they made their way off the platform, the crowd dispersed, students discussing the duel with animated enthusiasm. Remus and Eliza joined the group, their expressions a mix of amusement and pride.
"That was quite a show," Remus remarked, glancing at James and Sirius.
Eliza nodded in agreement. "They never fail to impress."
Sirius caught their conversation from across the room and approached them, his expression curious. "What are you two talking about over here?"
Remus exchanged a quick look with Eliza before replying casually, "Just admiring your dueling skills, as always."
Sirius raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Oh, is that all?"
James joined them, slinging an arm around Sirius's shoulders. "Just basking in the glory of another victory."
Peter appeared beside them, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "That was amazing! You two should duel more often."
Sirius chuckled, shooting a knowing look at Remus and Eliza. "Maybe we will."
The group dispersed, their camaraderie buoyed by the thrill of the duel and the unspoken bond that united them. Remus and Eliza exchanged a glance, their secret safe for now amidst the laughter and friendship that defined their days at Hogwarts.
