Kelly and Stella : Coming Back Together Again

Switch day

6 years ago Stella and Kelly welcomed their first child a son named Brandon Lee Severide and then 4 short years ago 3 months before they split they welcomed a baby girl named Ella Kate Severide. It had gotten to the point that all Stella and Kelly did was argue so they decided to split wanting to avoid giving their children the same childhoods they had with parents always fighting. Since then they've both remained single only going on a few dates with other people. They run a 50/50 schedule with Kelly getting them one week and then Stella gets them the next. Jennifer has moved back to Chicago and babysits them and gets Brandon to and from school when they have shift. Kelly and Stella have always co parented very well which they credit some due to working together and do switches themselves

Today was a switch day and they were going back to Kellys meaning that Stella had to pack up some of their favorite toys from her house that always went to Kellys with them. They only ever took between houses a few things that reminded them of the other parent as a comfort thing. "Hey Kelly here's their bags if you want to go ahead and put them in your car before shift starts good" Stella said coming up behind Kelly in the locker room "oh yes thank you let me go do that real quick" Kelly said hurrying out to put the bags in his car and get back in case they get called out. Immediately upon returning to the inside of the firehouse he saw Stella and thought he would go talk to her for a minute "have they been pretty good for you this week or giving you trouble with anything specific that I should know about to watch for" he asked her "not really. The last few nights Ella hasn't been sleeping like her normal self but that's really it that's different at the moment" she told Kelly "okay. Yeah that's definitely weird as she's always been a good sleeper. I'll keep my eye open and see if she starts showing any signs of being sick and if so I'll let you know" he told her before squad 3 got called out with ambo

Several hours later they were finally both back at the firehouse at the same time and dinner was being prepared for them as Kelly walked out of his quarters he heard Stella in the common room video chatting with their kids so he headed over wanting to say a quick hi to them "hey how has y'all's day been so far " Kelly asked as Ella replied "good" and got a "great school was so much fun and after we got to Grandma's we got to make cookies with her" Brandon told him "I'm so glad y'all have had a good day and great time with Grandma. Did you learn anything today at school " Kelly asked Brandon "we practiced the alphabet today" Brandon replied "oh so much fun" Kelly told him. "Well I'm about to let you talk to your momma again and sorry for interrupting. Love y'all and be good for Grandma I'll see y'all tomorrow" Kelly told them as they both told him they loved him and goodbye and he walked off to go fix his dinner plate. Shortly after Stella got off the phone and joined everyone at the table taking a seat beside Kelly "I think they enjoyed getting to talk to the both of us" she said to him "I think so too but I'm sorry for interrupting your call with them" Kelly told her "no your fine nothing to be sorry for your their dad and they want to talk to you just as much" she replied as he nodded.

A little while later and a couple calls for both later it was time to shower and try to get some sleep in between calls as Stella and Kelly yet again ran into one another in the hallway leaving the showers and heading to their lieutenant quarters " hey I was thinking about what you said earlier about both of us being their parents and it got me thinking maybe we should start doing stuff as a family together with them. Tomorrow after shift and Brandon gets out of school I plan on taking them to the aquarium for dinner and to see the fish wanna come" Kelly said to Stella "of course I would love to thank you for inviting me Kelly" Stella told him as he told her no problem and headed off to his quarters to try to get some shut eye

The end of shift came quickly as they left with Kelly heading to his car and to his moms. Since Stella agreed to come to the aquarium with them this afternoon he hasn't stopped thinking about it. They will get to be a true family "put together" for once something that he knows will make their kids happy to see and something he knows him and Stella are both willing to give their kids. Stella has expressed a couple times interest in working things out to try to be together again and so has Kelly but every time they both agree they both get scared and back out so they weren't sure if they would ever be back together as a couple and knew they weren't at the moment so this would have to do

Kelly picked up Ella and took ter to his house before unloading his shift bag and their bags from Stella's "this afternoon after bubba gets out of school were going to go to the aquarium to eat dinner and see the fish with mommy" Kelly told her "yayyy. Mommy gets to be there too" Ella said questionally "yes I asked her if she wanted to come and she said she would love to..does that make you happy" he asked "yes I love it so much" Ella said as Kelly smiled at her and went to playing with her until time to go get Brandon from school. Once they got back to his house he gave them baths and got them dressed up before sending a picture to Stella "I think they are ready and I know they're so excited your tagging along with us" Kelly text her "Aww we have some of the cutest kids. I'm happy to be coming along thank you again for the invite" Stella responded before Kelly responded with a "anytime". They finished getting ready as he loaded them into the car and headed off to the aquarium.
