I had packed the car with a small suitcase and my work computer. I knew I would be doing a lot of work even though I was here for "vacation" considering the fact that I knew Joost wasn't kidding about how focused I needed to be to work with him.
There was still a bit of traffic while I drove to Teun's apartment, but it had died down since it wasn't rush-hour anymore. I saw Joost was standing outside with a large backpack and tote bag on his shoulder. He was still wearing black sunglasses that matched his black outfit.
Even matched his soul too.
I let the car slow down and stopped at the side of the road for him to enter the car. He threw his stuff in the back and got in the passenger seat. I wished he had just taken a seat in the back so I wouldn't have to feel him so close to me for 7 hours straight.
He didn't even say a word or anything as he put his seatbelt on, he just waited for me to drive off. Already off to a good start.
I turned the car back on which activated the speakers. I was currently listening to Arctic Monkeys album "The Car". Joost looked at me with disgust as the second song on the album came on.
"What the fuck is this?" He asked.
"It's Arctic Monkeys" I answered while focusing on the road.
"It's quite shit" He commented
"I can easily drop you off at the station where you'll have to wait even longer to get home so shut up or put headphones on" I told him off.
I was minding my own business while listening to one of my favourite albums but then again, every Arctic Monkeys album was my favourite so I could never pick a specific one. It always depended on the mood and vibe. If I was driving, I loved listening to calmer albums with some good instrumental parts which was exactly what "The Car" represented.
Joost rolled his eyes but didn't put his headphones on. He continued to sit there in silence while he looked out of the window as if he was in a music video. The rain then started appearing the further we got out of the city which only added to the music video vibes.
'Sculptures Of Anything Goes' came on and Joost's attention turned to the speakers. I saw how his ears poked up as the dramatic drums came in.
"Can we restart it?" He asked to which I hit the replay button.
He pulled out his phone and started recording the intro to the song. It was heavy and the anticipation was building up to something from the very beginning in that song. After Alex's voice came in Joost stopped the recording and started typing on his phone.
He continued just typing away as the song continued. He was focusing on whatever had just come to mind and not paying attention to anything around him. He didn't even pay attention when we passed a police car that had loud sirens turned on.
The song was nearing one of my favourite parts, so I started singing along since Joost wasn't even paying attention. "Flash that angle grinder smile. Gasp..." I let out a gasp as Alex Turner did the same thing in the song. "And roll your eyes..." I continued.
"Wait...go back again" Joost commanded.
"Why?" I questioned.
"Do that thing you just did with the gasp again" He ordered again.
"Why should I?" I crooked an eyebrow.
"I'll pay for car snacks if you do it?" he offered.
"Fine" I said and went back into the song where the gasp part came up.
