Rejecting The Bond

Roman's pov

I lacked nothing in life, money piled at my feet, woman around the corner if needed and men were quick to please me all because of my title, the ruthless alpha.

My forehead creased as my gamma, Mathew entered my office, alone.
Where's Ryan? I asked.
I made it pretty clear to him last night  I needed him to be here.

He called me this morning and told me to inform you he wouldn't make it
To attend the meeting cause he needs to take care of something. Mathew said.

I held back a grunt of frustration. My brother has been slacking a lot lately, now that he's found his mate he's abandoned his duties.

"I see. I wonder what's so important other than this meeting. Did he perhaps tell you?"

Mathew shook his head. "No, he didn't alpha"
I let out a exasperated sigh. This meeting cannot take place without him. It seems I will have to move it to another day. You can resume back to your duties Mathew.

As soon as Mathew had left my office I rose from my seat and grabbed my car keys. I'm going to pay my brother a visit and see what's keeping him away from his work.

As I step out of my office I'm greeted by Luke, he's one of the elders.
Luke, what brings you here? I asked.
"I'm hoping you and I can have a word? But as I can see you're in a hurry to leave so I guess we can chat another time"

No it's fine. Actually I was on my way to see Ryan. I said crossing my arms.
Luke exhaled and pursed his lips.
"What's he done now?"
He's been neglecting his duties once again. I sighed.
I warned you making him your beta was a huge mistake. Anyway I'm not here to discuss him. I'm here to talk about you.

I raised a brow. Me? What about me?

Can we discuss this in your office? He said pointing to my office door.
I wouldn't want anyone listening in on our conversation.

Of course. I muttered, opening the door and motioning for him to enter. I shut the door behind me and settled down on the chair behind my desk.

Luke settled down on the chair across me with his arms crossed.
Before I could ask him what he wanted to talk to me about he beat me to it.

"I heard you found your mate is it true?"

I sighed. "So that's what you're here for? To talk about my mate?" I sighed running my hand through my hair.

"Yes, and the rest of the eldest are curious as to why you haven't yet introduced her to the pack?"

That's because I plan on rejecting her soon.

"And why is that? A mate is a gift, given to us by the moon goddess and some of us are fortunate to have one"

My jaw tightened. I was in no mood to discuss my so called mate neither was I interested in her. To me a mate was nothing but a damn curse, and I wish I never met her.

Do we really need to talk about this? I questioned getting frustrated.

"Roman whatever happened was in the past, you need to let go and move on at least for the sake of the pack, they need a luna and you need an heir"

I rose from my seat and walked to the patio, staring into the forest.

Do you have any idea who she is? I asked.

"Yes I'm aware she's Michael's illegitimate daughter" Luke answered.

I turned around facing him with a raised brow. Illegitimate? I questioned with a raised brow.

Didn't you know? He asked as he strode towards me.

Know what? I probed.

"Micheal raped an omega and that's how your mate came about" Luke explained.

How do you know all of this? I asked.

News travels quite fast, especially news like that. He answered.

I had no idea. I mumbled.

That isn't all. The poor girl was forced to watch her mother being killed by Micheal. The girl then worked as a slave for her father and was never acknowledged as his daughter.

Why are you telling me all of this? It still doesn't change how I feel about her.

"I knew you'd say that but you don't have a choice. The elders are getting quite impatient. They think it's time you have an heir"

"I'm never going to accept her as my mate if that's what you think. She's not even fit to be my luna, she's weak and not forgetting human"

"What if she isn't human?" Luke challenged.
I still don't care, and I never will. I'm going to reject this bond as soon as possible and once it brakes, inform the elders to find me a bride.

"Are you sure you want to do this? Rejecting the mate bond isn't as simple as you may think. You will also be hurting yourself in the process"

I've already made up my mind Luke. I'm going ahead with the re- a knock on the door interrupts me.

"Enter!". I yell.
An omega enters the room.

What is it? I growl.

Alpha it's the girl whom you've brought to the pack, she's at the infirmary and she's in a pretty bad shape.

What happened to her? Luke asked the omega.
I don't know but the pack doctor told me to pass the news to alpha.

Perhaps you should go and check on her. Luke said.

I let out a snicker. "And do what exactly? Maybe if she dies it would be all the better"
