"Okay, I think that's the last box," Indigo sighed with a sense of accomplishment, carefully placing the final stack of her beloved books into the cardboard container.
The day had been long, filled with the meticulous task of packing up her room. Indigo and Nat had worked tirelessly, organizing and boxing up memories and essentials, while the men—Bucky, Steve, and Sam—had taken charge of transporting the packed boxes to their cottage.
Nat walked over, securing the box with strips of tape to ensure none of the books spilled out during the move. Indigo couldn't help but smile gratefully at her friend's efficiency. However, there was a certain protectiveness in her actions too—Indigo hadn't allowed anyone to inspect the contents of the boxes too closely. She didn't want anyone, especially Nat or Steve, to stumble upon items that might stir up memories or emotions better left undisturbed.
With a sigh of relief, Indigo wiped her brow, feeling a wave of nostalgia wash over her as she surveyed the nearly empty room. It was bittersweet—leaving behind a space that had been hers, yet embarking on a new chapter with Bucky in their cottage by the lake.
"I think this is going to be really good for you, Indie," Nat said warmly, extending a hand to help Indigo up from the floor. They had just finished packing the last of Indigo's belongings, and the weight of the day's events was settling in.
Indigo accepted Nat's hand gratefully, feeling a mix of exhaustion and anticipation for the future. "You and Buck will have a place of your own, and I'll be able to come and visit, or you can come and visit me," Nat continued, her tone comforting yet tinged with a hint of wistfulness.
"Yeah, wherever you and the boys will be," Indigo replied softly, her expression reflecting the sadness she felt. Earlier that morning, Nat had shared the news that she, Steve, and Sam had decided to return to the world of action. Unable to sit still knowing there were people who still needed their help, they were preparing to embark on new missions and challenges.
Indigo understood their reasons—they were heroes at heart, compelled to make a difference wherever they went. But it didn't make saying goodbye any easier. They had become more than teammates; they were family, bonded by shared experiences and a deep sense of camaraderie.
"You have a phone, you can call at anytime. Just like we can call at anytime." Nat nodded, her expression softening. "Speaking of calling, have you heard anything from Wanda?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity.
Indigo's face brightened at the mention of Wanda. "Yeah, I just talked to her yesterday," she replied warmly. "She and Vis had found this cute little coffee place they've been going to."
Nat chuckled softly, her eyes reflecting a mixture of amusement and fondness. "Sounds like domestic life is treating them well," she remarked, her tone tinged with genuine happiness for their friend's happiness.
