Miyuki's POV
The sun rose up, and I remembered Tomioka's words about not letting Nezuko under the sun. We put her in a dark but small cave nearby.
"What shall we do?" Tanjiro asked, looking around anxiously. "Let's find something to cover her up," I suggested.
"Nezuko, don't come out, we'll be back soon." Tanjiro told Nezuko to stay put until we returned, then we walked a little further and came across some farmland.
"They probably will have something." We spotted a farmer and approached him.
"Excuse me. Would it be okay if I took that basket, straw, and some bamboo?" Tanjiro pointed at the basket by their house.
"Sure, you're welcome to it, but that basket's full of holes," the farmer replied, scratching his head. "Yes. I'll pay you for it," I said, taking out my purse.
"No, that's all right. I mean, it's a basket full of holes," he assured, waving his hands dismissively. "No, we will pay you!" Tanjiro insisted firmly.
"No, it's all right. You can have the bamboo and straw for free, too," the farmer said, looking amused at our persistence.
"I said it's okay! You're one stubborn brat!" He snapped as I grabbed his hands and slapped the money into the farmer's hand. "Please accept this, although it's just small change!"
Tanjiro quickly grabbed the basket, straw, and bamboo and started running off. "We really appreciate your kindness," I smiled, he blushed and I ran after Tanjiro.
Back at the cave, "Nezuko." Tanjiro called out for Nezuko, who was hiding inside. "Nezuko?" There was no reply. I peeked in panicking. "She's gone!!" I exclaimed, surprised.
Then, Nezuko poked her head out of a hole in the ground. "She's here," Tanjiro assured.
"You gave me a fright," I gasped. "My little sister has turned into a mole. And she's frowning!" Tanjiro said, smiling nervously. "She must really want to avoid the sunlight," I mused.
Tanjiro fashioned a covered basket for Nezuko with the basket, straw, and bamboo.
"Nezuko, think you can fit inside this? I want to keep moving during the day, too," he asked gently. "We'll take turns carrying you, okay?" I added softly.
Nezuko dove headfirst into the basket but didn't quite fit. "Smaller, Nezuko! Get smaller!" Tanjiro told her as if casting a spell. Nezuko flipped the basket right-side up and dove into it.
"Good girl," I praised as Nezuko became small enough to fit inside the basket. "That's a good girl, Nezuko! I'm impressed!" Tanjiro patted her head.
I covered the basket with my coat. "You should put it in," he said, noticing my gesture. "No, Nezuko needs it more than me," I insisted, tying it tight.
In the late afternoon, Tanjiro walked down the path past a farm with Nezuko carried in the covered basket on his back.
"Are we even going the right way?" I asked, looking around.
Tanjiro looked a bit lost himself but then we spotted a woman nearby. "Let's ask her," he said, nudging me forward.
I approached the woman and asked, "Excuse me, could you tell us how to get to Mt. Sagiri?"
"If you want to go to Mt. Sagiri, you'll have to cross over that mountain, but..." The woman looked worried. "The sun's about to set. Are you really heading there with all that luggage?"
"It's dangerous, but we'll be fine," I assured her with a confident smile. "Thank you very much," Tanjiro said, bowing slightly.
"People have gone missing lately! Try not to lose your way!" the woman warned as we turned back and waved at her.
