Miyuki's POV
After successfully performing magic, I felt a rush of exhilaration. Urokodaki-San walked toward.
"Mr. Urokodaki..." Tanjirou and I turned to face him. He looked at us, completely emotional. Tanjirou's eyes began to water and I saw the tears forming in Urokodaki's eyes.
"I had no intention of sending you two to the Final Selection. I didn't want to see my children die anymore," Urokodaki confessed, his voice heavy with the burden he had carried.
He patted Tanjiro on the head, and the boy couldn't hold back his tears any longer. "Come on, we're not that delicate." I said grabbing his sleeves.
"I was sure you wouldn't be able to slice this boulder, but..." Urokodaki-San continued, turning to me. His hand gently patted my head, and I felt tears welling up, though I managed to hold them back. "Well done, both of you."
Tanjirou and I stood there, tears streaming down his face while I blinked back mine. 'Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry!'
Urokodaki then enveloped us in a warm hug. "Make sure you two come back alive from the Final Selection," he whispered.
We nodded, a silent promise to return, and headed back to Urokodaki-San's hut. Once there, we took a much-needed bath.
I wrapped my long, red hair in a towel, marveling at how much it had grown since I last cut it. As I stared at my reflection, memories of my family and the tragedy that befell them flashed.
"Two years..." I muttered, Stepping out of the bathroom, I heard Tanjiro's cheerful voice from the dining room. "Wow... What's the occasion? There's so much food!"
I followed the sound of his voice and entered the room to see Urokodaki-Sam cooking hotpot filled with lots of meat and vegetables. "What's up with the feast?!" I asked curious and surprised.
"You've completed all your training, so we're celebrating," Urokodaki-San replied with a gentle smile.
We settled down in a semi-circle around the table. "Don't be shy. Eat up," Urokodaki said, offering a bowl to Tanjiro and then to me.
"Thanks for the food!!" We both accepted the bowls gratefully and began eating heartily.
After finishing the meal, I gathered the dishes and began washing them. The sound of water and clinking dishes was soothing, a small moment of normalcy in our otherwise tumultuous lives.
Later that night, Tanjiro approached me. "Nee-San can you help me...?" he asked, holding up a clipper. I smiled, wiping my hands on my apron. "Sute" I replied, taking the clipper from him.
Tanjiro knelt down, and I sat behind him, carefully cutting his hair. "It just seems like yesterday you asked me not to cut my hair," I said, reminiscing about how much he had grown.
"Hey, Tanjirou... Miyuki," Urokodaki-San called out to us after dinner. "Did you enjoy that hot pot?"
"Yes! I haven't had such a feast in so long!" Tanjirou replied cheerfully, a broad smile on his face. "It was nice, we should do this more often." I said pleased.
"A growing boy like you with a hearty appetite should get stronger the more he eats, as well as grow bigger in size," Urokodaki said with a warm chuckle.
I scoffed playfully, "He doesn't seem to have grown much." I teased, glancing at Tanjiro who was still quite a bit smaller than I was.
Tanjirou pouted, "I'll grow soon enough, Just wait and see!"
