Miyuki's POV
I finally returned, my bag bulging with amulets, and couldn't help but be proud of myself. As I trudged up to where Tengen was standing.
"Miyuki!!" He took one look at me and raised an eyebrow, a wide grin spreading across his face.
"You look like you just wrestled a mountain," Tengen said, clearly amused. "So, which bear did you tangle with this time?"
"Don't even ask," I panted, still catching my breath. "My master had one last 'little' job for me."
Tengen chuckled, giving me a hearty pat on the shoulder that nearly knocked me over. "Well, if the bear looks worse than you do, I'd say you came out on top."
I handed him the pouch of amulets, which was stuffed to the point of bursting. "Here, these should be enough for everyone," I said nonchalantly despite my exhaustion.
Tengen took the pouch, his eyes widening as he peeked inside, a smile spreading across his face. "I'm already retired—" he began, but I cut him off.
"Keep it," I insisted, brushing a stray leaf out of my hair. "Consider it a gift from your favorite deity."
Tengen chuckled, putting his hands around my shoulder with a dramatic flair. "Who am I to refuse a gift from such a gorgeous deity?"
In the distance, I noticed his wives—Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma—waving at me with bright smiles. I waved back enthusiastically, nearly knocking myself off balance in the process.
"When will you come by for training?" Tengen asked, leaning against me slightly, as if to share his massive weight.
"In a week," I replied, trying not to get crushed as I adjusted to support his weight on my shoulder.
"Good," he said with an even wider grin. "I've been waiting for a sparring partner all this time. My wives are demanding it."
I rolled my eyes, but before I could respond, we were interrupted by the sounds of training on the mountain.
Several Demon Slayers were struggling up the steep incline, sweat pouring down their faces as they huffed and puffed.
Tengen watched them with a critical eye, his expression turning from amused to exasperated in an instant. "So slow, so slow, so slow! What are you doing, taking a scenic tour?
"You guys really are unbelievable!" His voice boomed across the training ground, making the struggling Slayers nearly jump out of their skins.
"And here I thought I was the one who needed more training." I couldn't help but laugh, shaking my head.
Tengen grinned, his earlier mock seriousness evaporating. "Don't worry, I'll whip them into shape. After all, if they're going to keep up with a god like me, they've got a long way to go."
The trainees, panting heavily, tried to pick up the pace.
"First of all, your basic fitness is non-existent! This is just simply running! Faster! Move as if the demons are chasing you!" Tengen shook his head in mock disappointment and I chuckled.
"Hey, hey, I can't hear your voices! No need to lick the ground! It isn't break time yet! You guys are total losers! Run another lap." He yelled never taking his eyes off the trainees.
The trainees groaned but pushed themselves harder, showing through the fatigue. A few of them soon collapsed in exhaustion, much to Tengen's annoyance.
He hit one of the fallen soldiers with a wooden sword.
"And this," he declared, looking at the rest of the exhausted group, "is only the beginning. The training of the active Hashira after this will be even harder!"
