Miyuki's POV
I took a bath and spread a bed next to Nezuko. In the corner, I saw Tanjiro writing in his journal. "You're still writing in that?" I asked with a sigh.
He chuckled nervously, "I'm done." He closed the book with a finality that suggested he had been at it for a while.
After he finished, he watched Nezuko for some time before Urokodaki-San slid open the door.
"Let's go."
I quickly made my bed, knowing I'd be dead tired by the time today's training was done. As we stepped out, I muttered, "Here we go again."
Tanjirou smiled sympathetically, "We'll get through this."
During training, Urokodaki-San filled us in on the Demon Slayer Corps. "The Demon Slayer Corps has hundreds of members, But their leader is as elusive as a ninja."
"That's some next-level hide-and-seek skills," I whispered to Tanjirou, who stifled a laugh.
Despite not getting any recognition from the government, the Corps has been around since ancient times, dedicated to demon-hunting like it's the latest trend.
Demons are just as mysterious, emerging from the darkness like they missed the memo on normal entrances. They have incredible abilities like healing, regeneration, shape-shifting, and more.
"High-maintenance much?" I said under my breath. "Only sunlight and specialized blades can kill them." Urokodaki-San explained.
Tanjirou shook his head with a smile, "Talk about tough customers."
As the training session continued, Urokodaki had us running up and down the mountain. "Keep moving!" he shouted. "Demons won't wait for you to catch your breath!"
I gasped, "Why do demons have to be so inconsiderate?"
Tanjirou, panting beside me, laughed. "I don't think they care about our schedules."
Later, Urokodaki had us practice our swordsmanship. "Focus! A single mistake can cost you your life."
On Mt. Sagiri, I stay at the bottom as I see Tanjiro climb the mountain before training starts. As he ran, I wonder how the traps don't work until he climbs up.
"I'm a trainer. I literally train swordsmen. There are many trainers, and each of them trains their pupils with their own regimen in their location."
Apparently, Urokodaki is one of the trainers, and until or unless he gives us a sign, we can't join the Demon Slayer Corps. Whether or not we're eligible for the Final Selection is up to him.
The wind wavered and I take a deep breath, realizing that Tanjiro is now at the top of the mountain.
I start running up. This is our test, apparently. I'm not human, it seems, and Urokodaki-San can't teach me because I don't have the same mechanisms as a human.
All this just makes me burn a fuse in my head, but... well, I'm training anyway.
I run into the forest and jump over a tripwire.
"Oh my god, what the—!" A log swings toward me and I barely dodge it. I jump over another tripwire, and suddenly, a bunch of short swords come flying toward me.
"Fuck!!" I crouch, holding my head. "He really wants to kill me!" I gasp in surprise. Midway, I meet Tanjirou, who is as beat up as me. We smile and high-five as he goes down and I climb up.
Luckily, the mountain doesn't attack me as I climb down. Thank god, or else I'd have killed myself during the day. Tanjirou and I switch places, and I descend the mountain again.
