Miyuki's POV
I ran through the forest, my breath ragged, and adrenaline surging. "Another Upper Moon?" I asked strained as I kept pace with Muichiro.
"Seems like that," he replied, his expression stoic despite the chaos.
I winced, feeling the sting of exhaustion and the pressure of the situation. "Goddamnit!!" I muttered under my breath, frustrated. "The villagers are in danger, too! Dammit! My body's numb! I can't hear, either!"
Muichiro and I dashed back toward the fight. Suddenly, we spotted Kotetsu struggling against a fish-like demon. "Hey, wait," I said, stopping abruptly to observe.
"As a swordsmith, the child is still unseasoned. Saving him is a low priority," Muichiro remarked coldly. "How could you say that? He's just a kid!" I shot him a look of disbelief.
"There's no reason to stop now. If the entire village is under attack, the village chief comes first, then those with greater skills and talents are my top priority to protect." Muichiro's expression remained unchanged.
The fish-like demon was about to devour Kotetsu. "Is that so? Fine," I said coldly, walking toward the demon. "You don't even have a sword," Tokito noted.
I flipped him off without turning around. Muichiro merely shrugged and continued running toward the main fight, towards the village.
I grabbed Kotetsu's sword from his hands and struck the fish demon, taking it down. Two more appeared instantly. "Get back," I commanded Kotetsu.
While I was dealing with them, another demon emerged, lunging at Kotetsu. "Wind Breathing, ," I tried to use my technique but ended up coughing up blood.
"Third Form: Clear Storm Wind Tree!" I managed to take down two demons, but the third went straight for Kotetsu.
"Waah, waahh, Mi-- MiYUKI!!" Kotetsu screamed, clutching at me for help.
Suddenly, Muichiro stood in front of Kotetsu. "You're in my way, so just run." As the fish demon squeezed Kotetsu unconscious, its arm was sliced off, freeing the young swordsmith from its hold.
The demon quickly healed and lunged again, but Muichiro dashed forward and beheaded it.
"Eh, why?" Muichiro murmured in surprise as the demon continued to move around, eventually regrowing its head completely.
"The pot—ugh, cough," I tried to explained and Muichiro quickly jumped and sliced the pot on the demon. "Urahhh!" The demon fell and disintegrated.
Kotetsu emerged from the bushes, running toward us and clinging to Muichiro, tears streaming down his face.
"Wahhh! Thank you! I thought I was a goner! I thought I was dead! I was so scared! Wahhh!" Looking to his rescuer, Kotetsu held onto Muichiro tightly, thanking him for saving his life and apologizing for insulting him. "I shouldn't have called you 'seaweed head'! I'm so sorry!"
Muichiro looked confused. "I didn't expect you to come back," I said, wiping the blood from my lips with my sleeve.
Muichiro hesitated, looking at the ground. "I thought you'd die," he admitted quietly.
"You felt guilty, huh?" I chuckled, ruffling his hair. He nodded reluctantly. "We don't have time for this," he said, pulling away from Kotetsu.
"Let's go," I agreed, and we started walking away.
"Ah... Wait! They attacked Kanamori-San, too! When I went to help him out, that monster assaulted me!" Kotetsu ran in front of us, desperate.
"No—" I shut Muichiro's lips with my hand. "Where is he?" I asked Kotetsu.
