Scene: Hospital Room
Eddie entered the room, his breath catching at the sight of Buck. He lay in the hospital bed, bandages covering his arms, an oxygen mask on his face. The beeping of the monitors was a constant reminder of how close they had come to losing him. Tubes and wires seemed to be everywhere, a stark contrast to the strong, vibrant man Eddie was used to seeing. The antiseptic smell of the hospital mingled with the faint scent of smoke still clinging to Buck's skin.
Eddie's heart ached at the sight. His hand shook as he reached out to touch Buck's, but he stopped short, not wanting to cause him any pain. The burns on Buck's arms were severe, the skin raw and blistered, and Eddie knew the slightest touch could hurt him really bad. He finally rested his hand on the bed beside Buck's, his eyes filling with tears.
Eddie: "Buck, it's me. I'm here. Don't worry, you're gonna be okay."
Buck's eyes fluttered open, his gaze unfocused at first. His movements were sluggish, each blink slow and deliberate, as if he were trying to piece together where he was and what had happened. When he saw Eddie, a weak smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. His voice was barely a whisper, rough and strained.
Buck: "Eddie..."
Hearing Buck's voice, even so faint, broke Eddie's heart all over again. He forced a smile through his tears, trying to be strong for Buck.
Eddie: "Shh, don't try to talk. Just rest. You're going to be okay."
Eddie could see the pain in Buck's eyes, the exhaustion etched into every line of his face. Buck's chest rose and fell with labored breaths, each one a reminder of the damage done by the smoke and the strain of his injuries. Eddie leaned in closer, his voice a soft murmur, filled with all the love and worry he felt.
Eddie: "I'm here, Buck. I'm not going anywhere."
Tears streamed down Eddie's face as he leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Buck's forehead. The touch was light, almost imperceptible, but it carried all the emotion Eddie couldn't put into words. Buck's eyes closed again, but the tension in his body seemed to ease slightly, as if the mere presence of Eddie brought him some comfort.
Eddie stayed by his side, holding his shoulder lightly, careful not to put pressure on the burns. His heart ached but was filled with relief that Buck was alive. The machines around them beeped steadily, a reminder of Buck's fragility, but also a promise that he was still fighting.
Buck's breathing was shallow, each inhale and exhale a struggle. Eddie could see the strain in the lines of Buck's face, the pain that even the strong medication couldn't entirely mask. His hands, usually so strong and capable, were now bandaged and immobile, the burns preventing any movement.
Eddie's voice broke as he spoke, his tears falling freely.
Eddie: "You scared the hell out of me, Buck. But you're going to get through this. We all need you. I need you. Christopher needs you."
He watched as Buck's eyes fluttered open again, a hint of recognition and gratitude in them. Buck's lips moved, trying to form words, but the effort was too much. Instead, he tried to move his hand slowly, unsuccessfully. The burns make him suffer, he cannot move his arms or hands.
Eddie: "I know it hurts, Buck. But you're not alone. I'm right here. We're going to get through this together."
Buck's eyes filled with tears, mirroring Eddie's. The pain, both physical and emotional, was almost unbearable, but knowing Eddie was there gave him a sliver of peace. Eddie leaned closer, resting his forehead against Buck's, his tears mingling with Buck's own.
Eddie: "You're so strong, Buck. Stronger than you know. We've been through so much, and we'll get through this too. I promise."
Buck's eyes drifted shut again, his body succumbing to the exhaustion and pain. Eddie stayed close, his presence a constant source of comfort. He whispered words of love and reassurance, his voice a steady anchor in the tumultuous sea of Buck's pain and fear.
As the hours passed, Eddie never left Buck's side. He watched every rise and fall of Buck's chest, listened to every beep of the machines, and prayed for Buck's strength to hold out. He thought about Christopher, about the life they had built together, and the future they dreamed of. He thought about the laughter, the joy, and the love that Buck brought into their lives.
Eddie: "We've got so much to look forward to, Buck. So many more memories to make. Just hang on, okay?"
His words were met with a faint, almost imperceptible nod from Buck, and Eddie felt a rush of hope. He knew the road to recovery would be long and painful, but as long as Buck was with him, he believed they could face anything.
The night stretched on, and Eddie remained vigilant, his heart full of love and determination. He knew Buck was a fighter, and he would be there every step of the way, holding on to the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
