Scene: The Beach
A few days later, Buck, Eddie, and Christopher returned to the beach where they had shared their engagement news. The late afternoon sun cast a golden hue over the water, creating a serene backdrop that felt almost magical. The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing onto the shore brought a sense of calm as they walked side by side, their shoes in hand, letting the sand and sea brush against their feet. Christopher, excited as ever, hobbled ahead on his crutches, still getting used to them on the uneven sand but determined to explore every inch of the place.
As they strolled along the shoreline, Buck and Eddie exchanged quiet glances, both lost in thought, imagining what this beach could look like on their wedding day. The simplicity of the moment—just the three of them—felt right. No grand gestures, no over-the-top fanfare. Just love, the ocean, and their family. It was everything they had envisioned.
Eddie (gesturing toward the shoreline): “What about here? Right on the sand, by the ocean. We could say our vows with the waves in the background.”
He glanced at Buck, waiting for his reaction. Buck’s eyes sparkled, and a wide smile broke across his face as he looked around, his imagination already painting the picture of their day.
Buck (beaming): “It’s perfect. Exactly what I was thinking.”
He paused, turning to look back at the path they had walked, his mind racing with ideas.
Buck (thoughtfully): “We can keep it simple—no need for anything extravagant. Just a few white flowers, maybe some lanterns to light the way after sunset... and a small arch where we can say our vows.”
He gestured with his hands, envisioning how it would all come together. Eddie smiled, appreciating how in tune they both were with what they wanted.
Eddie (nodding): “Yeah, I like that. No big reception or anything. Just a small dinner afterward, with our family and friends in the restaurant over there, nothing too formal.”
Christopher, who had been wandering a few steps ahead, suddenly turned back to join them, his crutches kicking up sand as he moved.
Christopher (excited): “I know what we need! We need fairy lights! A lot of them, all over the place. And a big sign that says ‘Buck and Dad’s Wedding!’”
Buck laughed, crouching down to Christopher’s level and gently tapping the end of his crutch.
Buck (grinning): “Fairy lights, huh? I like that idea. We’ll make sure the whole place glows at night, just for you.”
Christopher’s face lit up even brighter at the thought, and Eddie couldn’t help but chuckle at how seriously Chris was taking his role as their unofficial wedding planner.
Eddie (smiling): “Fairy lights and a big sign. Sounds like a good plan, Chris. Anything else we’re missing?”
Christopher tilted his head, deep in thought as he scanned the beach. After a moment, he looked back at Buck and Eddie, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
Christopher: “What about balloons? A lot of them. And streamers! Oh, and a dance floor!”
Buck raised an eyebrow, exchanging an amused glance with Eddie. They both knew Christopher’s imagination was running wild, but neither of them had the heart to rein him in just yet.
Buck (teasing): “Balloons and a dance floor on the beach, huh? You’re really going all out, buddy.”
Christopher nodded enthusiastically, clearly pleased with his grand vision.
