The tunnels under the village are just light enough for us to see, the walls are dank and it is somehow even colder than it is above in the storm.
"It's got to be here somewhere" Little Rose is just ahead of me as the other three are just behind me, Little Rose turns a corner where a light is shining and seconds later she lets out a terrified scream and almost runs into me, I have to steady us both so we don't topple over.
"What?!" I look behind her; my face drops and my eyes widen at the sight. I've seen a lot of Grimms in my time but these creatures bring a sense of horror with there presence
"We've got to go" Little Rose tugs on my arm snapping me out of my trance, I turn dashing forward with her when an ear piercing shriek hits my ears causing me to fall to the floor clutching my ears.
I'm tired......
The screeching stops and Little Rose pulls me up to follow her, we run down the muggy tunnels coming across what looks like a door up a ramp, Blondie heads there as Weiss mentions it's locked, the shrieking sound reaches my ears again, dropping to the floor I squeeze my ears and eyes shut.
I have no idea what's happening around me, I can't bear sitting up or opening my eyes.
A shining light emits from somewhere and the shrieking stops.
I open my eyes to see the creatures have been rendered useless, in a rush Blondie smashes open the door and we all (now including Maria, I'm not sure where she came from) head through the door to find ourselves right back where we started in the creepy house. The door was to the cellar.
"Let's get out of here" Blondie heads out
"Don't have to tell me twice" I shudder following her
"We're leaving you idiot!" Is what I catch coming out of Maria's mouth as I head outside
Once the trailer is connected to Blondie's bike we head off in silence.
Maria, who is holding a book, opens her mouth once we're far away from the eerie village.
"The Apathy" she starts, I frown confused "their not strong or ferocious, they drain your will to go on"
Explains the feeling I was getting back there and the way everyone else was acting.
"Bartleby's estate was hemorrhaging money towards the end he wanted to cut costs on huntsmen protection but to do that he needed everyone calm, always." Maria narrates
"Managed to separate two from the pack to bring home and I locked them in the cellar, wife thinks I was sealing the water way entrance. I'll do it tomorrow and tell her the truth once these things take the edge off everyone. I'm tired." Oscar reads
"The next page proves that he did but not before the rest of them followed their missing members. My guess is they used the waterways beneath the estate that Bartleby sealed up the next morning. His plan worked; no one was happy, no one was sad or angry, no one was anything." She closes the book on that melancholy ending. She grunts "I should have seen this"
"How is it you know so much about the Grimm?" Coral asks
"Yeah and how is it you knew exactly what to say to me in the tunnel to make my eyes do that?" Little Rose adds
"Well isn't it obvious" she states "I had silver eyes"
We all freeze surprised only Little Rose speaking
"Wha..?"
"I was a proud warrior......" she tells us how she was ambushed and how they wanted her dead for her silver eyes, how they outnumbered her and blinded her leaving her bleeding out.
"A huntress should carry herself with pride and fight until her last breath but I wasn't a fighter until the end, after I lost my eyes I went into hiding" she finishes
"I can't believe it, you're the Grimm Reaper. You were a legend and then you disappeared" Qrow divulges
"How does a legend just disappear?" Ash asks
"She never used her real name, she never showed her face, but the stories of you are legendary. I based my weapon on yours, I wanted to be just like you." Qrow practically dotes on her like a love struck teenager
"Well I'm a huge disappointment so you're well on your way."
"Sure you ran but you saved lives before that so how can you say that?" I question
"Child, as I said, a huntress should protect others until the bitter end. But after I lost my eyes I only looked out for myself. Even after my surgery I was too afraid to fight."
"We're all only human" I shrug
"You shouldn't aspire to be like me, especially when some of you are clearly stronger already" she pauses "it's comforting to see that your generation seems up to the task of inheriting the world. I wish I had left it in better shape for you"
"Well maybe you can do something now" Little Rose considers "teach me to use my powers the way you did" Maria smiles lightly at Little Roses optimism
Ring ring
My own scroll going off scares me half to death, I pick it up
"It's Jaune" I tell them feeling both flattered and confused as to why he'd contact me.
"How?" Ash asks as we look around not seeing anything but snow and trees still
"Answer it!" Weiss demands
"Uh hello" I speak
"Silver! Oh thank you, I've been checking my scroll for your signal since we made it to the city" his voice sounds so................happy?
"The city?" I point my scroll forward and his signal gets better as Blondie proceeds forward
"Guys!" Blondie calls "we have arrived"
I hang up on Jaune as we carry on making it into the city, staying near the entrance to the city so the others can find us.
"CUTE, BOY, OZ!" Nora's voice can be heard over everyone's, poor Oscar's tackled my the pancake fanatic
Behind her we see Ren, Sapphire and Jaune approaching. I stand to the side as they all hug each other in turn, awkward.
"Are you all okay?" Ren asks us all as he hugs Blondie
"We were so worried" Jaune states as he hugs my sister, I feel a twinge in my chest at the sight
"It's been a crazy trip" Blake tells them
"Understatement of the century" Ash intervenes as he hugs Nora
"Wait, who's the old lady?" Nora points at Maria
"I'm so glad your all safe" Coral hugs Ren
"Your gonna love this place" Nora bounces on the balls off her feet
Everyone engages in their own conversations as I walk away slightly looking around, I feel a hand on my shoulder and turn around, in seconds a body clings to mine.
"I was so worried about you" I awkwardly pat her on the back
"I'm fine Saph" I pull away after a short moment
"It's great to have you back" someone clearing there through interrupts us
"She's all yours" Sapphire steps away walking around Jaune before we make eye contact and she winks.
"I'm glad your alright, I was really worried about you" I smile slightly at the sentiment, he fidgets as he stands there and before i can talk myself out of it I walk up to him and wrap my arms around his shoulders placing my head on his chest.
It takes him a moment before he wraps his arms around me placing his head on mine.
I'm not sure how long we stand like that but when I pull away I can feel everyone's eyes on us, I shift uncomfortably on my feet
"Where have you been staying?" Ash intervenes, everyone turns to him and I mouth a thank you
"With Jaune's sister Saffron, this way" Nora beckons us to follow her, I fall behind feeling awkward and surprised at my previous actions. They'll all forget about it before long........... I hope
