Mako Mermaids: Rita Santos' Daughter

Chapter 48

Caitlan's POV:

I've been teaching Kim and Cleo how to use their powers; I mean Cleo has been a mermaid a good few years but it's never too late to enhance your magic. Cleo has even developed more powers. It's a full moon tonight - Cleo mastered the Full Moon Spell a while ago, she's going to the Moon Pool tonight to help Kim.

Before meeting mum at school, I headed to the Library. As usual, Ladder scooted up to me. "Hey Ladder" I said happily and sat on his steps as he took me to the Merpeople section. One book caught my eye: History and Family Trees of Merpeople - I realised that I was a wee bit late. "Uncle Max, am I ok to borrow this?" I asked as Max appeared. "Of course!" He smiled. I patted Ladder before I left.

I ran like crazy to school and ran to Mum's office. "Sorry I'm late" I panted. "It's ok, sweetheart." Mum kissed my cheek as I sat down next to her. I opened the book and before reading, mum mentioned that Nerissa was a descendant of the Royal Merman who chose not to start the chamber.

Mum went to try and talk Zac out of starting up the chamber, I stayed in the office as I was reading. I went straight to the family trees section, I'll read the history part later. All Merpeople started with the Assyrian goddess Atargatis. So in a way, all merpeople are related. Atargatis spread her eggs throughout the seven seas.

A couple of eons later, when the Greek gods came to be known, the mermaid Queen of the South Pacific, Amphritite, married the God of the Sea, Poseidon. Looking at the family tree, one of their daughters was the mermaid that Zac and Mimmi's Northern merman ancestor fell in love with. At the bottom of the family tree, was me and mum. "No way!" I said out loud. Mum came in panicked. "What's wrong?" She asked. I showed her what I just read. "Wow" mum was lost for words.

I headed to the cafe after school, Zac was telling the others that him and Mimmi descended from Mermaid/Merman royalty. "Guys, I need to show you something." I said quietly. "What is it?" Mimmi sounded worried. "Meet me at the Library" I told them, and I discretely shook my head at Ondina telling her Erik can't come.

At the Library, Evie, Ondina, Sirena, Mimmi and Zac came in just as Uncle Max finished his class and his students left. "What is this about?" Ondina asked. I showed them the book. "So here is the merman that Mimmi and Zac are directly descended from" I pointed out. "He fell in love with the daughter of Poseidon and Amphritite?" Sirena gasped. "Look who's descended from her" I added. "You and Rita are direct descendants to the God of the Sea! That's awesome. And if it was my ancestor and your ancestor that fell in love, we were already family before our blood pact!" Zac said happily. "Please don't go to the Chamber tonight. Zac." I pleaded and I saw him and Ondina exchange strange looks.

Sirena and David were singing at the cafe. Me, Zac, Evie, Mimmi and Ondina sat at a table. Zac went to the bathroom.

A while later, Zac still hadn't returned and Ondina went to find him. Next thing I know, I've got a vision of Zac and Ondina on Mako. I knew Mimmi saw the same - me, Mimmi and Evie grabbed Sirena and headed to Mako. Erik followed us.

We got to the chamber and Zac started it up. The trident rose up out of the floor. Ondina said that Veridia ordered her to destroy the chamber so that the pod could come back. "What if it destroys Mako? We don't know what will happen." Mimmi told her. "Cait, you're a direct descendent of Poseidon, don't you know anything?" Ondina pleaded. "If I did, I'd have said." I replied. "Take the trident Zac" Erik urged. Zac went to grab the trident, but it was some sort of illusion and wasn't attainable. We all ran out as the chamber started to shut down as the Full Moon continued the cycle.

Mimmi told Zac off for not telling us that he was coming. "We're even closer to starting up the chamber now, right Zac?" Erik said. "Yeah, we need the real trident to start it up" Zac replied. "Great. Let's get it!" Erik enthusiastically said. "We can't. It's destroyed" Sirena told him.
