CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: OUR GROUND
"he cares more deeply than anyone I know, even when it doesn't seem like it"
HAZEL CLIMBED IN THROUGH THE LOOSE
panel at the back of the dropship, helping Raven pop it open. With her arms in front of her, she pulled herself inside, crawling on her stomach. Jasper and Raven slipping in with her.Raven was immediately admiring everything down there, seeing the parts that held the dropship together. "Very cool."
"Stop thinking like a mechanic and find me something to shoot through." Jasper hissed towards her.
Hazel looked up, hearing the muffled sounds of Murphy's voice. He was talking, which meant at least someone was alive up there. He bets were on both. They hadn't heard any gunshots, or screaming from inside. She doubted either Waverly or Bellamy would be quiet if Murphy killed one of them.
She knew if they didn't figure something out, Murphy would kill Bellamy. He'd probably kill them both, but Bellamy was the one he had a vendetta against.
Raven scooted to a panel, looking at all the wires. "Well, this mechanic's gonna hotwire the door."
Jasper looked up when he saw the ladder. "There's the hatch."
"Forget it, Jasper." Hazel whispered to him. "I already thought of it, but the lock's on top."
"Damn it." Jasper muttered out. "He's up there because of me!"
"No, he's not." Hazel whispered back, trying to stay as quiet as possible. "Bellamy is up there because that's who Bellamy is. He cares more deeply than anyone I know, even when it doesn't seem like it. He's a good guy, and he wouldn't want anyone to get hurt because of him. Murphy wants Bellamy, and he knew that. It's the only reason he traded you guys."
"He didn't trade us." Jasper shook his head. "The trade was for all three. He still has Waverly in there."
"She'll be okay." Hazel said. "Bellamy won't let anything happen to her. And we'll get them out."
"Guys," Raven hissed to them. "Help me find a door circuit."
"We lost Clarke." Jasper said. "We can't lose Bellamy too."
"We're not losing Bellamy." Hazel said. "Now be quiet."
"She's right, Jasper." Raven whispered. "They are like right above your head."
"Good. Then I'll just shoot through the floor." Jasper pointed his rifle up. "I just need to figure out where Murphy is."
Shooting Murphy sounded like a great plan. Hazel followed Jasper's lead, pointing her own rifle up. Her eyes widened, looking at the piped container of hydrazine.
