THE JOURNEY TO THE MOUNTAIN WAS A LONG one. Waverly pushed further through the woods, keeping up with Bellamy and Lincoln who moved quicker with their longer legs. Her brown hair down, braids hanging in it in her attempt to look more like a Grounder. If they got to the mountain, they didn't want the Mountain Men realising they were Sky People.
Upon finding a dead deer, Lincoln went towards the pale-furred creature. With his knife, he cut into the carcass before pushing his hands inside the body, pulling them out covered in blood. He spread the animal blood over his mouth and neck, remaining quiet as he disguised himself back as a Reaper.
"Okay, so we make it to the intake door without any of the real Reapers seeing us." Bellamy said, looking towards him. "What happens then?"
"I kill everyone." Lincoln said as he covered his clothes in the blood next. "And you two slip inside. Limestone." Bellamy passed the small packet to Lincoln, watching as he dipped his fingers in the limestone, spreading three white lines down his face. "Let's go. We've got a lot of ground to cover before dark."
"Hey." Bellamy looked as they continued on. "I need to know what happens beyond the intake door."
"They remove your clothes, blast you with boiling water, and douse you with something that burns even worse." Lincoln explained, his breathing thick as he told them. "Then we were sorted. The others were tagged Harvest, I was tagged Cerberus and turned into a Reaper."
"Harvest." Waverly repeated, looking towards them. "That would be where the Grounders who are being bled out go, in that room with all the cages. It's where Clarke found Anya."
"Cerberus, the three-headed dog that guards the underworld." Bellamy mused, bringing Lincoln to look towards him. "My mom read mythology to us all the time. Octavia loved it." A beat passed between them. "You're good for her, you make her strong."
Lincoln looked forward. "She was already strong."
"Hey, I need to ask you something." Bellamy stopped walking, looking towards Lincoln. "You protected my sister before you even knew her, why?"
Lincoln looked towards them. "When I was a boy, I saw a ship fall from the sky like Raven's. The man inside was hurt, his body broken. I couldn't get him out."
"Suicide by Earth." Bellamy said, remembering the stories from the Ark. "I heard the stories in the Guard, I just didn't know they were true."
"I brought him food, water. I couldn't speak the enemy's language yet so I couldn't understand him." Lincoln continued with his story. "So, on the third day, I told my father. He made me kill him. The world's been trying to turn me into a monster for as long as I can remember. Let's keep moving."
