HUENING KAI—
Things were significantly better after that night in the storage room with Y/N. She was no longer avoiding me and we were becoming close friends again. I was glad that I was able to reassure her and let her know that she could trust me. Despite nothing progressing in terms of our romantic relationship (if that even existed,) I was content with the way we were. I liked her, my feelings for her were strong, but I knew moving fast would be a bad idea when it finally took us this long to clear the air and become friends again. I only had eyes for her, would only have eyes for her, so I was willing to be patient.
We finished up our promotions and our groups were no longer working with the other. However, some of them often went out together to do fun things like bowling or play video games, except I never really wanted to go since Y/N wouldn't be there as she was busy. She seemed to be doing a lot again, looking exhausted and being grumpy as per usual, but she often vented to me about it all to get things off her chest. I knew there was no way I'd be able help fix whatever she was going through, but I felt better knowing I was able to be there for her.
I was able to see her during Music Bank, and then we'd try to meet once a week to work on our song together. Sometimes either of us couldn't make it, or it would only be for a little bit, but the two of us made an effort to come. It was progressing slowly, but surely. At this point in time we had finished composing and were moving onto writing the lyrics. Y/N contacted a few composers and lyricists to help us, because the more eyes on the piece the higher chance of it actually being released.
We hadn't even talked about how producing would go, but I had a vision in mind. This song was naturally lower and slower, and there was a specific person in mind that I knew deserved to sing this. One night, I asked Y/N what she also thought about it.
"You know, we haven't talked about who we want to sing this." I said, spinning my chair to face her. Y/N paused, putting down her pen and turning to me. She looked adorable tonight, wearing her glasses and baggy and comfortable clothes.
"I have a few people in mind." She said, "but this is your song. Who do you want to sing it?"
I pursed my lips together. "I also have someone in mind. Maybe it's the same person. Say their name on the count of three: one, two, three."
"Beomgyu." We both said. I laughed at her surprised expression, clapping my hands together. I knew from when we started composing this song that I wanted it to be for Beomgyu—his voice suited this type of romantic and slow song, and I thought he deserved it. He often didn't get a lot of lines in our songs, despite fans begging Hybe to give him more lines. This would be the perfect opportunity to give them what they wanted.
"That's funny." Y/N laughed, surprised that we were talking about the same person. "I also think your voice would suit it well."
I shrugged, considering it. "Why?"
"Mm..." she paused, tapping her lip. It was a habit of hers, which was difficult for me because I couldn't resist looking there when she did that. Y/N looked at me, and smirked. "You do have a sexy voice."
My eyes widened at her straightforwardness, trying to hide now nervous she made me. "I have heard that before..." I muttered, feeling shy. She thought I had a sexy voice? Was that an objective opinion or a subjective one?
"Yeah. Beomgyu's voice is sexy in a way that it's deeper and raspier, and yours is higher but whinier, which also makes me think the same. Juxtaposed, I think they work well together because you two have very different vocal colors. I'd be interested in experimenting with that, but only if you want to sing." She rambled on and on about how she often hated it when companies made their idols since the exact same way and take the individuality out of singers.
