ʻ I wanna hold the hand inside you
I wanna take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth. ʼ

CERELIA'S THOUGHTS buzzed, zapping from one possibility to another, as she stared at the busy market crowd.

The coffee seller, the bear suited man entertaining the children and the broken street lamp in front of her lone bench; all seemed to draw her attention. And most of all, the laughing couple in front of the bookstore drew her attention. Despite all, she saw Lucien and Aurora's faces in them as her heart clenched with sadness.

Those two were meant to be, weren't they? It's stupid to assume that she could ever become better than Aurora in any aspect.

She was snapped out of her self sabotaging thoughts as Elijah sat down next to her, holding two cups of coffee.

She silently took one from him, momentarily glancing back at that couple as their faces dissolved back to actual ones.

Cerelia sighed quietly to herself. She couldn't go around picturing Lucien and Aurora's faces in random couples.

"Are you alright?" Elijah's voice dragged her back to reality, helping her escape her corrosive thoughts.

"Yeah." She nodded, passing him a soft smile as the warmth from the cup of coffee enveloped her hands in a cosy manner. "Does it look like I am not?"

Elijah gave a one-shouldered shrug, turning slightly to look at her. "Well, it looks like something's wrong."

Cerelia gave half-a-smile to him. "There will always be something wrong with me. Sorry to disappoint."

Elijah smiled at her as if she had told him the most pleasant of things. "We won't be ourselves if not for our flaws."

"Mine is a lifelong scar, though."

"As long as it doesn't bother you, it won't bother me."

"It does bother me. A lot. I am sure it would bother you too."

"There is not a single thing about you that would bother me." Elijah smiled at her warmly, something in his gaze that resembled fondness. Cerelia almost wished it was Lucien here at his place, saying these things to her.

She pursed her lips, looking away from him. "You don't know me at all. I am broken and scarred and a burden."

"You should not think like that." Elijah frowned, his brows furrowed in worry. "We all have our past. Don't let it deter you or make you consider yourself as any of those things you said."
