CERELIA WAS unaware how much time had passed. She was unaware of where she was, what was happening to her.

She just knew Evie was dead because of her. And that she was drowning over and over again. She'd not bothered to keep a count, but after what felt like never-ending hours of staring at Evie's body floating beside her, it was almost morning.

But the next time she opened her eyes, instead of being back in the water with Evie's dead eyes staring at her, she found herself laying in the backside of a car.

She got startled on not spotting Evie immediately and tried to sit up, only to find herself strapped down onto the seat.

Cerelia could hear her loud breathing echoing in her own ears. Where was Evie? Or more like her dead body.

She looked at the driver's seat in alarm, unable to see the man's face though. Her mind couldn't make her worry who it could be, it only wanted Evie right back beside her.

"Where is she?" She croaked out, her voice cranky and barely audible.

The man glanced in the rear view mirror, looking at her in disinterest, probably annoyed that she'd woken up.

Cerelia didn't care who it was, she only wanted Evie back.

He shoved his right hand back, his eyes still set on the road ahead. And before Cerelia could ask again about where Evie was, he pressed his palm over her nose and mouth, cutting off her air supply.

Instinctively, she struggled against him, her lungs burning. But failed to do so as black dots began covering her vision and soon she passed out.

The next time she woke up, she was in some dark dingy cell with barely any sunlight streaming in.

"Evie." She muttered her name weakly, too weak to rise up from where she was lying in the corner of the room, curled up in a foetal position.

Too exhausted to keep her eyes open, she welcomed darkness once again while her mind screamed at her to find Evie.

The next time Cerelia regained consciousness, she was still in the dingy cell. All alone and cold.

She glanced around herself this time, only to be met with never ending darkness.

A sob broke free from across her lips as she curled into herself. Evie was dead. Her little sister was gone because of her.

"Evie." She whispered her name to the darkness, her voice quivering as her chest heaved for air.

For hours to come, it was just her, the darkness and her sobs that echoes across the basement. And after what felt like infinity, the tears dried out and all she could do was stare blankly ahead of her, letting her mind replay the memories with Evie to comfort herself.
