Kara knew she should've been happy, but she couldn't be happy.

After all, his lips were on hers.

The guy she loved most was kissing her sister.

Anger coursed through Kara's veins as she silently speed-walked out of the West Wing of the museum and went upstairs, pacing back and forth in the living room of their apartment.

Kara felt a simmering inside of her, just like when chai bubbles up, threatening to spill over the pot, onto the stove.

Her anger felt unquenchable as she clenched her neck and balled her hands into fists, her nails pressing into the skin of her palms. Kara swore it would probably draw blood.

Eventually, the anger and pressure that Kara felt dimmed down into sadness.

Tears slipped down her face, and she became mad at herself. Kara was mad at herself for not being happy for her sister, but she couldn't help it.

She'd liked Aiden for so long, to a point it became love. She liked him so much to the point she couldn't stand him being with someone else. She liked him so much that she thought he liked her back.

Kara cried, replaying the moment over and over in her head. Walking in on that moment was so...humiliating. She was nearly sure he liked her back as he always smiled at her, and was always sweet to her.

She buried her head in her hands, the coldness of her palms feeling uncomfortable on the warmth of her face. Her hands felt clammy as she despaired.

Kara didn't blame Aiden for liking her sister.

Aru was brave, funny, and sneaky. Not to mention; Aru was charming. She had round eyes that were somehow dark and bright at the same time, with beautiful chestnut coloured skin that glowed. Her hair was also precious, like a dark waterfall that tumbled down her back.

Kara looked like a joke next to her.

But Aiden...who wouldn't fall for Aiden? Aiden was thoughtful and kind. He, too, was extremely handsome. Being the direct descendant of an apsara, he looked handsome at all times of the day, and looked perfect in the simplest of clothes. When he smiled, dimples would form at his cheeks, and Kara loved the way he smiled at her.

She fell for the delusions believing that he had a special smile just for her.

But no. Kara tapped into reality, realising that he smiled like that at everyone. Everyone except her sister.

That felt like a punch to the gut.

She realised all the times she'd seen him smile in their direction when Aru wasn't looking. Kara thought he was smiling at her, but no, he was smiling at her sister.

That gaze he has when he looks at her sister was enticing.

Jealousy and greed sprang gnawing at her insides and Kara ultimately hated it, but she couldn't deny that she wanted Aiden to look at her that way. She wanted Aiden to smile at her the same way he did with Aru.

She wanted it. So desperately.

But Kara couldn't pick herself off the living room floor, still in a trance at what she had seen.

But then another thought struck her.

Why?

Kara thought she'd already answered this, but another answer came to her.

Aru was the daughter her parents had wanted. Not Kara. But no matter how many times Kara had tried to be as good as Aru, she couldn't. There was just something that made Aru and Kara completely different people in almost every way that counted.
