"What is the meaning of this?"

Y/n jumped, looking over and seeing Alma walk into the room, an angry look on her face and slammed the paper down. She seen the letter that Barron's "friends" have sent to her and immediately she opened her mouth to explain.

"You're working for him?" She says, her glare making her grow nervous.

"No no, I can explain-"

"I bring you into my home, pitying you, wanting to give you a good home and you thank me with this?" She says through her teeth, her talons digging into the table.

"No, I didn't want this!" Y/n snaps, taking the paper and startling Alma when she ripped it in half. "I'm not working for him."

"Then why was this sent here? He knows where your location is?"

"No he doesn't. He's been mailing everywhere to find me."

"Why? So you can kill who ever you visit next?" Alma says, her glare hardening as she looked her over and the woman sent her the same look.

"No!"

"Then why, y/n? Why have you put my children at risk to his harm?" Alma says, raising her tone and the woman sent her a look.

"Because he wants me for the experiment! To be one of him!" She snaps back, the older woman stepping back a bit when she got near her. "I am not a wight, Alma, and that is exactly why he wants to find me!"

"Why? He's been going every where collecting peculiars, why just you?" She says with a skeptical look.

"Because I'm his daughter!"

A silence fell between the two. The ymbrynes features fell for a second, shock slipping in her stoic glare and the woman huffed out a sigh, walking away from her.

"I'll get packing." She mutters, Alma seeing her take out a bag. She was still weary towards her, but she still didn't want her to leave just yet.

"Y/n."

"What?" She snaps, looking back at her and Alma sent her a firm look.

"You have lied to me." She starts but was interrupted.

"I already know and obviously I'm not proud I did. Now leave me be, please." Y/n says, hurt slipping through her features. "I didn't want to hurt any of you. Not after I met you."

"You planned to originally do so?"

"Yes, but only because Barron had sent me on this mission- I had no choice!" The younger woman says and looked back down at her bag, sighing and sitting down on the edge of the bed. "After I met you all, I couldn't do it. He called me weak and an idiot for growing soft, but I just couldn't hurt any of you." She rubbed her fingers over her temple, deep in thought as Alma thought about what she had said. The ymbryne looked at her once more, confused whether to be angry or hurt or feel bad for her.

"I'm sorry." Alma eventually settled on saying and the woman just looked at the ground.

"I didn't tell you because I was worried you would get rid of me. I couldn't even think about hurting or leaving any of you and I was so worried you would easily just let go of me." She says quietly and Alma hesitated for a moment before sitting beside her on the edge of the bed.

"I will admit, I'm still angry that you haven't told me about any of that and our lives were possibly in danger," Alma says, her tone a bit firm and tense, but she grew quiet. "But I can't just kick you out of the loop. You're not a wight so you don't pose much of a danger."

"I promise, I'm not planning to hurt any of you. I would never." Y/n emphasizes and the older woman shushed her.

"I understand that. You've been with us for a while and I haven't seen you do anything that would be considered a threat to us." Alma says, y/n meeting her eyes to see she was sincere. "I won't lie, it is a surprise to hear your his daughter, but that doesn't mean you are anything like him. I may not have known about your past, but I know who you are and you're nothing like him."

"You won't make me leave?"

"No. As I said before, I couldn't bear to do that to you." Alma says. "You've been with us this long, you'll only age forward when you leave."

"And you don't want that?"

"By the birds no!" She says, appalled from her question and y/n looked away from her eyes. "I could never push that fate on to anyone. Especially when you've told me the truth and haven't done anything that has made me concerned for my children."

A silence fell between the two and the ymbryne watched her closely as y/n picked at the side of her nail, unsure what to say.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." She says quietly.

"It's alright. The only thing that matters is I do now." Alma says and y/n nods. "I do have to go prepare lunch, but don't beat yourself over it. I won't lie, I am a bit upset still, but that doesn't mean I hate you or don't want you here." She assures and y/n nodded again.

Alma gave her a gentle squeeze on the shoulder before she left, y/n managing a small smile after she did.
