Alma woke up during the middle of the night, a pain blossoming in her head, a shiver running through her despite the blankets draped on top of her. Feeling under the weather and not exactly wanting to be alone, she debated on getting y/n who was in the room next door.

Y/n and her were in a somewhat established relationship, though they didn't share a bedroom just yet until they let the children know which wouldn't be too long.

The ymbryne waited a while to try and fall back asleep but when she failed to, she slowly got out of bed and walked over to her vanity to get her jacket to drape over her night gown. Her steps felt heavy, her body numb yet cold as she steadied herself against the wall as she walked over to her door. Being mindful to keep quiet, she gently shut her door, walking down to y/n's room. Alma was about to knock on her door, but stopped herself short. She was unsure whether the woman was awake or not and she wanted to try and let her stay asleep if she moved into bed.

The ravenette quietly pushed open the door, seeing the light in the bedroom was off and y/n was fast asleep under the covers. The ymbryne carefully shut the door behind her, almost stumbling over her feet but regained herself and walked over to the edge of the bed. It was a bit smaller than Alma's bed, so she had to be slow when crawling in beside her. She reached out a taloned hand and pulled the blanket down to get in, her movement faltering when she seen y/n let out a small sigh and move over on her other side.

Alma hesitated for a few seconds, unsure if she should leave or try again, when suddenly y/n gently took her hand that was still resting on the blanket. Her eyes will still shut as she placed a soft, comforting kiss on the ymbrynes knuckles before holding her hand close.

"What is it, bluebird?" Her voice was still coated in sleep, the words coming out as a quiet whisper and Alma looked down at the blanket, a bit ashamed for waking her for her own need.

"I don't feel well." The ymbryne whispers, her voice quiet and more vulnerable than she wanted it to be. She was capable of taking care of herself, but wanted to be as close to the woman as possible.

At the words, y/n opened her eyes and met the older woman's striking blue ones, noticing how pale she looked even in the moonlight.

"Let me feel your forehead." Y/n whispered softly, the ymbryne leaning forward against her hand, satisfied when she felt how cold her hand felt against her.

"You feel awfully warm." Y/n says, sitting up in bed, gently cupping the woman's face in her hands to look over her. "Does anything hurt?"

"Just my head." Alma sighs, shutting her eyes as the younger woman's cool hands rested against her skin.

"You're running a fever." Y/n says gently, her gaze softening when Alma slowly opened her eyes.

"I have to go to the council tomorrow." The older woman sighs, shutting her eyes once more when they kept burning.

"You're not going to that meeting when you don't feel well, Fay." The woman scolds lightly, her thumb gently running across the ymbrynes cheek.

"I have to, it's about Barron." The ymbryne mumbles, her talons resting on the woman's hips as y/n tried cooling her down.

"We'll see how you feel in the morning." Y/n says, her tone final before softening it. "Now let's slip your jacket off. You need to cool down."

"I'm cold."

"But I can't let the fever worsen and neither can you." Y/n says and Alma gave in, allowing the younger woman to slide it off of her shoulders and set it aside. "I should go run you a bath, that will help."
