TW: sh thoughts/actions
Miss Peregrine was busy by the sink, doing the dishes after dinner as she waited for it to be time for reset, the children off in their rooms to pass the time.
Y/n hadn't showed up for dinner and the woman was sure to have a talk with her later. The woman knew full well the ymbryne didn't like when the schedule changed even the slightest bit.
Checking her pocket watch, she quickly finished the rest of the dishes before walking upstairs to get the children for reset. She started by Emma's door and made her way down the hall, giving Millard a scolding halfway there for being in the nude.
Eventually Alma had got to y/n's door, knocking on the wood to gain her attention.
"Miss y/l/n, it's time for reset." The ymbryne says, her tone a bit firm and she sighed when she got no response. "Y/n-" Alma cut herself off when the door opened, the woman walking right past her, her gaze focused hard on the floor as she went down stairs.
The headmistress watched her leave, confused and felt as if something was off. She shook off the feeling, simply thinking she was over thinking and followed outside after the children.
Alma hadn't had a chance to speak with y/n just yet, focused on getting reset finished and making sure the children cooperated going to bed.
"Miss Peregrine, I can't find my teddy." Claire says, walking alongside the ymbryne.
"I'll find it for you, dear. Now head along to bed with the others." Alma says softly, searching then around the home to look for the girls stuffed animal. Luckily it didn't take her long, finding it behind the coffee table in the parlor. She returned upstairs, tucking everyone in before she glanced over at y/n's door, finding it odd she hadn't said goodnight before heading to her room. Normally she did.
Her heels softly tapped against the wood floor, making her way down to the woman's room and knocking lightly on her door. Alma hadn't heard her in the room, not wanting to eavesdrop and she knocked once more. Still no response. Y/n couldn't have fallen asleep that quickly, could she?
((I wish))
Quietly opening the door, the ymbryne peeked into the room, opening the door further when she hadn't seen her in bed. Confused, Alma stepped into the room, saying her name one more before she heard a drawer shut and her gaze snapped over to the closet. Y/n had shut the drawer to her dresser, her gaze looking intensely at the older woman who only grew more confused.
"What are you doing?" Alma was the first to break the silence, glancing down to see how the woman's hands slightly shook.
"I was just getting a night gown out for bed." Which would have been believable if y/n didn't slam the drawer shut and wasn't answering the door.
"Alright." Alma says, hesitating just a second. She would let it slide. "You are aware, Miss y/l/n that I do not like when someone doesn't follow the schedule."
"I know, Miss." She says quietly, Alma knitting her eyebrows together slightly when she heard the shake in the woman's voice.
"I'm not mad at you, dear, I just wanted to make you aware."
"I know." Y/n repeats, a bit too quickly and glanced over at her. "Can I change now?" She asks, a hint for agitation and worry in her voice though her face didn't quite match her tone, the slight panic easily seen by the ymbryne. Y/n felt the woman studying her features and looked away once more, her eyes looking across the floor and her hand fisting the fabric of her button up as the silence fell over them.
"What are you hiding?" Alma then asks, y/j looking at her quickly.
"Nothing."
"You are. I can see it plain as day so do not say otherwise, I do not tolerate people lying." Miss Peregrine says, her features slightly hardening to a glare and the younger woman looked between her and the floor, her finger tapping slightly against the side of her pants as she looked for an answer.
