Y/n paced around the room, her hands running through her hair as she tried to take a deep breath and calm down. She only managed to pull a few loose strands out of her hair before she went back to pacing her room.
The woman was deep in thought. It had only been two weeks since the break up and she needed a change. Desperately.
Y/n messed with her hair, some in her fist as she tried to stop thinking about her. About everything they had done, anything that even remotely reminder her of her.
She let out an irritated groan, looking off towards her nightstand. The woman walked over to it, opening it and finding a pair of scissors, an idea coming to her mind.
Would Miss Peregrine be alright with it though? She thought about the question for a moment before shrugging it off, needing to do something as she felt the pain in her chest tighten.
Taking the scissors, she left towards the bathroom and only had the light of her candle to look off from since it was fairly late. She was supposed to be in bed asleep, but here she was about to do something she might regret.
Y/n didn't listen to her thoughts for long though and brought the scissors up, cutting off her hair from just below her ear. It wouldn't be unnoticed, her hair was down to her waist almost and with the loop, it wouldn't grow back but she wasn't thinking in the moment.
She felt the tears fill her eyes but turned it into anger as she messily cut the locks of hair, seeing it all fall onto the sink and floor. She knew it wouldn't turn out perfect, but she didn't care. She just wanted a change.
The woman kept cutting and cutting at it until eventually she felt that too familiar sob creep up the back of her throat, stopping her hand and she leaned over the sink as the tears finally fell.
No one knew about what had happened, she didn't know whether they would judge her or not. Especially Miss Peregrine. Despite being physically close to her age, she still felt ashamed with how she would react.
Y/n roughly wiped away the tears, seeing the pile of hair that was on the sink and floor, more tears only filling her eyes and rested her elbows on the sink counter, leaning her forehead against her hands as she tried to calm herself down.
Too distraught and deep in thought, she hadn't heard the soft clicking of the headmistress's heels or when she heard the soft knock on her door. Neither did she notice when Miss Peregrine opened the door, seeing the candlelight that flickered in the bathroom.
"Y/n?"
The younger woman looked over surprised and worried, meeting her gaze and couldn't quite read the woman's expression. She noticed the concern in her eyes when she seen the woman had been crying, but not only that. She seemed surprised but y/n couldn't tell if she was upset with her or not. Alma had seen the scissors on the sink and looked at her confused, but let her expression shift into a much softer gaze.
She let out a small sigh and walked over to her, y/n feeling her breathing go shallow as she waited for her to scold her. But she didn't. Instead the ymbryne brought her arms gently around her, pulling her into her arms and the younger woman didn't hesitate to return it.
"I'm sorry, I really am- I don't know what I was thinking-"
"No, it's alright." Alma interrupts, pulling away after a moment. "Is there something I should know?"
The younger woman looked over her features, seeing the concern and confusion falling over the ymbrynes face and she looked down at the floor, her eyes brimming with tears that made them burn. The older woman didn't hesitate to wipe them away, her hand gently resting against her cheek to have her eyes meet hers again.
"She left me." Is all y/n said, her voice a whisper as she felt her features fall once more, biting down on her cheek hard to keep them at bay.
She dared a glance at Miss Peregrine, seeing the sad, pitying look on her face and glanced immediately back down, her cheeks burning from embarrassment.
"Oh darling, why haven't you told me sooner?" Alma says softly, her expression softening and y/n only looked away, not wanting her to see the fresh tears that rolled down her cheeks. She felt the older woman bring her back into another hug, tightening it for only a second before loosening her hold. The younger woman didn't fight against it, bringing her own arms under hers. She hid her face against the fabric of her jacket, feeling her hands shake as she held her closer, Alma not hesitating to return it.
"Darling, you know you can tell me anything, right?" The ravenette asks, feeling her nod against her shoulder. "I'm not one to judge."
"I know." Y/n managed to say, her voice shaky.
The ymbryne didn't let go of her, not wanting to until she pulled away first. She seen the locks of hair on the floor behind her, glancing over where the candle set and where the scissors were. Before she seen what she had done with her hair, she was so worried she had done something else but was grateful to see that was all.
Finally y/n pulled away from her touch, Alma letting go and looking over her, seeing the messy cut work from the candlelight.
"If you like, I can touch up your hair tomorrow morning." Alma offers and then managed a small smile. "I'm not much of a hairstylist, but I'm sure I can fix it up."
Y/n managed the small smile back, feeling some of the pain in her chest lift and Alma gently wiped away her tears.
"I'm sorry, I must look like a mess." The younger woman says with a light laugh, Alma gently tucking her hair behind her ear, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Don't be." She says. "It suits you." She adds, the worry leaving her features and the younger woman blushed, smiling herself. "I missed seeing you smile."
"I have been all week." Y/n says with a small laugh, the woman gently running her thumb over her cheek.
"This one's genuine though." Alma says softly, the corners of her lips tugging up.
