"Miss y/l/n, haven't you been doing any of your chores?"

Y/n looked over with a bored expression, a book in her hands as she paced around the library.

"Y/n-"

"I heard you the first time." The woman snaps, meeting her gaze afterwords with a slight glare. "I'm not deaf."

"I never implied that you were." The ymbryne replies, a hint of annoyance in her tone, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Now will you answer my question?"

"I finished some of them earlier." She says, though part of it was a lie and the headmistress seen that, noticing how her gaze dropped to her book once more.

The older woman sighed, keeping herself calm as she walked over to her and snatched the book out of her hands earning a glare from y/n.

"Must you always have to be knowing what I'm up to?" She says with a harsh tone. "I'm a grown adult."

"Yes, I'm aware of that. But you are also living in my home which makes you just as equal to my other wards." Miss Peregrine replies with a slight glare and y/n felt a small twinge in her chest at the wording.

"I'm not just a ward." She mutters, hating the slight jealousy that flared in her chest and the way her cheeks burned showing how embarrassed she was.

The woman heard her but chose not to mention it, watching y/n as she stood up and placed the book back on the shelf.

"What do you want?" She snaps, seeing the older woman was still standing by the small desk in the room.

"I don't appreciate the tone, Miss y/l/n."

"I don't appreciate having someone hovering by me constantly like the plague!" Y/n shouts, holding her glare.

"My duty is to keep you all safe!" The ymbryne snaps back, walking over to her and jabbed a pointed talon against her chest with a glare. "Whether you accept that or not is completely up to you, but I am not risking anything."

"Well what about Victor?" She snaps and immediately regretted it, seeing the flash of hurt that went across the headmistress's face before she scolded it back, though her mood seemed to change. Y/n seen it in her eyes, the hurt was still there but she pushed it away, straightening her posture and clearing her throat.

"Miss?"

Y/n watched her walk back over to the doorway, not noticing when the woman held her hand out to catch her by the wrist but she couldn't reach her in time.

"The dishes will need to be done after dinner and before reset. You may skip the movie to do so." The older woman replies, her tone monotonous and cold, leaving the room afterwards.

The younger woman hesitated before deciding to wait just a bit before going after her. More than likely she would be more than upset with her about bringing up the boy she loved so dearly. Why did she say that? She should have known better, especially when she knows the ymbryne beats herself up every day over his death.

Y/n waited as long as she could but gave up, leaving the room and walking towards Emma who was in the hall.

"Miss Bloom, do you happen to know where Miss Peregrine is?" She asks and the girl nods.

"Yes, she's upstairs. I believe either in her room or having tea with Claire."

Y/n thanked her and walked upstairs, hoping she was in her bedroom as she didn't want to intterupt her weekly tea party she promised Claire. Knocking on her bedroom door, she was relieved to see the door knob turn after a moment.
