"There you are! I've been looking for you,"
As I turned to see who was speaking.
It was Yash.
"Oh, I was just having lunch with my friends," I replied, and he smiled and nodded.
"Well, I'll head on; you can come back at your own pace," he said before walking away.
"Sure," I answered.
"Who is he?" Asha asked, giving me a playful nudge.
"Just another intern like me," I replied, noticing Asha's growing interest in him.
"He's handsome," Asha remarked.
"Definitely," Vani chimed in, "but why was he looking for you?"
"Probably because lunch ended ten minutes ago," I said, glancing at my watch and sharing a laugh with them.
"Alright, we'll take off," Vani said as she and Asha got up to leave.
After they departed, I headed to the 9th floor and unexpectedly ran into Yash again.
"What are you doing here?" I inquired.
"Just working," he replied, looking a bit uncertain as he scratched his neck.
I smiled at him, and we walked together to our workspace, chatting along the way.
As we approached, I spotted Adhrit standing in a corner, seemingly waiting for someone.
Was he waiting for me?
I quickened my pace, momentarily forgetting Yash was beside me.
He tried to keep up, and I realized I was too eager to see Adhrit, giving away my excitement. As I approached Adhrit, he caught sight of me and flashed a smile, moving closer, but then his gaze landed on Yash, halting his steps.
In an instant, his cheerful demeanour soured.
"Do you need anything, sir?" Yash inquired, to which Adhrit simply shook his head.
"Alright then, let's carry on," Yash said, placing a reassuring hand on my back and guiding me inside.
I couldn't help but notice the visible annoyance on Adhrit's face; the tension was palpable.
Once seated, I glanced outside and caught a glimpse of Adhrit departing the area.
My focus wavered, unable to concentrate on work, especially with the thoughts swirling in my mind regarding his growing concerns about Yash and me.
Unable to suppress my impulse, I swiftly rose from my chair and headed in the direction Adhrit had taken.
Had he gone to his office?
I hurried toward the elevator just as the doors slid open, revealing Adhrit inside.
"Did you come here to tell me something?" I asked, but he averted his gaze.
I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for his office floor.
"You seem pretty close with that guy," he remarked, still avoiding eye contact while I discreetly studied him.
"Yes," I replied, and he shot me an accusing look.
"I mean as friends, not anything romantic," I clarified, waving my hands to emphasize my point, but he simply turned away.
As we arrived at his floor, I lingered, hoping he might say something or at least react, but he stayed silent.
