"What cops?" Alok inquired, confusion etching his features.

"The cops are out there, losing it!" another man's voice echoed somewhere in the chaos.

My mind felt like it was spiralling, unable to grasp the situation. An unbearable heat coursed through my body, making me feel as if I was ablaze.

"You! Go and see what's going on," Alok directed.

Straining to open my eyes, I tried to catch a glimpse of the unfolding drama. But the moment I managed to crack them open, tears streamed down my face—thanks to the fever gripping me.

I felt icy despite the heat radiating off my skin. To make matters worse, Alok weighed heavily on top of me, trapping me. Summoning every ounce of my strength, I attempted to wriggle free, but he barely budged.
Still, I persisted, squirming beneath him.

"Stop squirming!" he shouted, trying to steady me.

"If you see anything, just let me know. I can deal with the cops!" Alok added, glancing toward the outside commotion.

Suddenly, a piercing scream shattered the air from the direction the other man had gone. Curious and alarmed, Alok rose to investigate. I managed to prop myself up on my elbow, desperate to catch a glimpse of the action.

The light flooding in from the doorway was blinding, rendering everything a blur.

Yet, I could make out a shadowy figure advancing, accompanied by a heavy thud as Alok crumpled beside me.

"Ugh!" he groaned in agony.

Peering with heavy lids, I recognized Adhrit standing in the room, glaring menacingly at Alok. Had he hit him with such force?

"What a pathetic creature you are. Do you even deserve to draw breath?" Adhrit spat, his voice thick with disdain, his teeth clenched tight.

As Adhrit moved closer to Alok, he seized my arm and lifted me, taking with him the knife that Mr. Bakshi had pressed against me.

"Let her go," Adhrit commanded, his voice firm and deliberate, emphasizing each word.

"Do you think I would?" Alok replied with a mocking laugh.

Adhrit's glare was fierce, filled with a deadly intensity.

"Tell me, does this woman hold that much significance for you?" Alok taunted, bringing the blade dangerously close to my throat.

"I'm curious how you even found this place," he continued, "but sadly for you, I have no intention of letting her go. If I go down, she goes with me—" Alok threatened.

As Adhrit stepped forward, he warned, "If you lay a finger on her, you'll meet your end right here."

"I doubt you want to see her hurt. Why not step back? I'm more than willing to eliminate anyone in my way. But I suspect you don't share that sentiment," Alok said, retreating slightly. "So just back off," he insisted.

This was a dire predicament for Adhrit, and I knew I had to assist him.

But how?

My body felt like it was about to give in. I forced my eyes open and caught sight of the blade pressed against my throat—the source of all this chaos.
I grasped the edge of the knife, trying to deflect it away from me, but my hands began to bleed heavily.

That's when I heard the sharp crack of a gunshot.

"What on earth?!" Alok yelled, and then I heard him gasp, stumbling backwards before crashing to the ground.
