I couldn't determine where Adhrit and Tara had gone, and I despised wandering when I was already positioned exactly where those opposed to me wanted me to be.

I figured I could speak with them later; right now, it was best if I made my way back to the hotel.

As I walked, I noticed that Mr. Bakshi was nowhere in sight. Where could he have gone?

I remembered he was next to me earlier, but I lost track of him after Mrs. Malhotra approached. Since that moment, he vanished from the party.

I stood by the elevator, waiting impatiently for the doors to open, but it seemed to take forever.

"Ma'am, we're truly sorry, but the elevator requires some repairs, so we'd like to escort you to the lounge," one of the staff members informed me.

"Why isn't there a sign saying 'Out of Order'?" I inquired, and she offered me a timid smile.

"We were in the process of fixing it, ma'am; I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience," she replied, and I reluctantly accepted.

Climbing the stairs in heels was not an option for me. They led me to the hotel lounge area, which exuded luxury, with interiors artfully designed in rich tones.

"Ma'am, you're welcome to wait here, and please do sample our drinks. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask," she said with a smile before leaving me to settle in.

"Of course," I responded, and she departed.

I exhaled in frustration; finding your personal space can be quite the challenge, can't it?

The lounge was buzzing with activity, not exactly deserted.

Perhaps some were waiting just like me, while others were simply here to unwind. I carefully chose a corner where I could sit alone and blend into the background.

Nearby, a window caught my eye, offering a view of a stunning garden that the hotel proudly nurtured.

In that garden, I noticed two familiar figures: Adhrit and Tara.

They were engaged in conversation, though I couldn't catch what they were discussing.

Adhrit appeared to be offering her some comfort. But what was that all about? Were they close friends? If they were, why hadn't they mentioned each other to me before?

Adhrit tenderly wiped Tara's tears and seemed to be saying something reassuring, to which she nodded in response.

I knew how soothing his presence could be during tough times. Lost in my thoughts, I observed them share an embrace, with him gently patting her head, just as he had done for me before.

"That must bring her some comfort," I whispered to myself, momentarily hesitant to turn away from the scene until I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I glanced up from my seat to see a man in a suit sitting across from me.

"Hello, nice to meet you," he greeted, and I couldn't help but feel puzzled.

"Do I know you?" I asked, my brow furrowing. He let out a scoff.

"Of course not, but we could change that," he replied, and with a sigh, I grasped what he was hinting at.

"I'm not currently seeking anything like that," I replied, and his expression shifted to one of disappointment.

"So if you'll excuse me," I added, rising to make my exit.

"Let's see how far you plan to run," he shot back as I started to step away, prompting me to turn and face him.
