Once he landed, Adhrit sent me a message detailing his flight connections.

Once he arrived at his hotel and settled into a calm atmosphere, he finally reached out to me.

Hearing his voice brought me a sense of comfort.
In the days that followed, we talked extensively, and before I knew it, a whole week had flown by.

It's not that I was enjoying this solitary week; in fact, I dreaded the thought of sharing this space with anyone.

I truly dislike being alone, and it felt like he was prolonging this solitude.
Every little noise made me jump, prompting me to curl up under the blanket until I either fell asleep or chatted with Adhrit on the phone.

Speaking of our calls, it was quite the opposite for us; I wasn't the one calling him multiple times a day—he was the one reaching out.
I couldn't tell if he was doing it on purpose since I had asked him to call and check on me, but regardless of his intentions, I found comfort in our conversations.

I could hear his voice clearly, and it was thanks to him that I was living alone in this vast mansion, though I wasn't ready to confess that to him.

"I won't be able to chat with you much over the next couple of days, and I can't text either. I'll be pretty tied up," he mentioned.

"Yes, that's fine. You don't have to call me all the time; just a quick message in the morning and another in the evening would be great," I replied sincerely.

"Really? After just a week apart, you seem indifferent towards me," he said, and I could picture his face scrunching up in disappointment.

"It's not that at all. I just want you to get your work done quickly and come back. That's all," I explained, met with silence on the line.

"Well then, since you've finished your thoughts, I'll hang up," I joked, but he didn't reply.

"Adhrit, I was thinking, could we possibly proceed with—"

Then I heard a woman's voice in the background.

"Just hold on a moment," Adhrit said before putting me on hold.

I don't want to face it, no, I just can't bring myself to admit it.

I refuse to.

But I can't help but wonder who that woman might be.

Here we go again!
I need to put a stop to this. It could be someone he's collaborating with.

This leads me to ponder: has Adhrit managed to get back to work?

If that's the case, is Mr. Reedy now working for him?
He used to be with his father, but I assume he's moved on now.

With a heavy sigh, I glanced back at my phone, only to see that he had ended the call.

"Seriously? The nerve!" I exclaimed, directing my frustration at the device.

First, he asked me to hold on, and then he just hung up on me.

Fine, I won't answer your calls or respond to your texts; maybe then you'll get the message.

With that thought, I tossed my phone aside and attempted to drift off to sleep, but it eluded me.

My gaze fell on the teddy bear Adhrit had gifted me.

I picked it up, lying flat on my back, holding it at eye level, gazing at it with a sense of yearning.

"What's up with your owner?" I murmured to the teddy, closing my eyes.

I imagined Adhrit in place of the bear, leaning closer and closer, and suddenly I jolted awake, shaking my head.
