I found myself standing by a pillar, waiting for Mr Singhania and his family to finish enjoying their party.
Three long hours had passed, and each time my emotions threatened to spill over, I took a sip of water to mask my traitorous tears.
Glancing at my phone, I noticed it was 1:30 in the morning.
I shifted my weight, feeling the ache in my feet from standing still for too long-a sting that paled in comparison to the emotional turmoil I had been grappling with since earlier.
The idea of confronting Mr Singhania filled me with dread; my heart raced at the thought, and a small part of me longed to escape this moment and avoid the Singhania family for good.
Yet, just as that escape felt tempting, a memory of my grandfather surged forth, along with the wisdom he imparted.
I knew I had to speak out against the injustices that Mr. Advaith Singhania had perpetuated for so long-and here I was, standing ready to do just that.
It's hard to believe that he's allowing his younger son, Itish, to marry the woman of his dreams, and just when Adhrit and I were finally ready to explore our feelings for each other, he goes and engages Adhrit with Gina instead.
Something doesn't add up, and it's preventing me from taking even a single step towards home.
Deep down, I sense that if I rush back today, I'll end up regretting it profoundly.
As I contemplated all this, I overheard faint whispers and chitchat emanating from the exit of the dining area where the Singhanias had gathered.
And there he was, the mastermind of this whole situation, strolling ahead with that insufferable face of his-Mr. Singhania.
Itish's face lit up as Sonia cosied up to him, both of them shining like sunflowers basking in the last rays of daylight.
In a similar scene, I spotted Adhrit, but he was far from cheerful; Gina beamed at him, chatting away as he merely nodded along, lost in thought.
My fists clenched tightly as they drew closer to my position.
"Hello, Mr. Singhania! Oops, my bad. I meant father-in-law," I chirped with a grin, as Mr. Singhania cleared his throat.
"Haven't headed home yet?" he inquired, attempting to sound stern but failing to hide the uncertainty in his tone.
"I'm pleased you're finally acknowledging my existence. I was starting to think you believed I was dead, what with planning an engagement for your son who is already married," I retorted, casting a glance at Adhrit, who appeared dumbfounded.
It seemed like everyone present was taken aback, whether it was due to my unexpected appearance or my bold statement.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Mr Singhania replied, wiping the fake smile off his face.
"Feeling any remorse for your countless sins?" I questioned, causing his smile to vanish as alarm flashed across his face.
"What is your aim here?" he demanded, his tone lacking courtesy.
"To expose a murderer," I stated matter-of-factly, causing him to grit his teeth.
"More reasons to kick you out of the family, you know far too much, much like your grandfather," he threatened, advancing towards me.
However, I stood my ground and pushed him away ever so slightly.
"Sana, what are you saying?" Adhrit questioned as I cast a gentle glance his way.
