A sharp pain throbbed on my forehead as I gradually opened my eyes.
Blinking against the brightness, I noticed light streaming through tiny gaps in the walls. This was a completely unfamiliar place.
"Where am I?" I wondered, my mind racing to recall what had happened before.
Suddenly, it all hit me—I had been abducted by Alok, and to make matters worse, Mr. Bakshi was in cahoots with him. It stung to realize how long I had placed my trust in Mr. Bakshi, only to discover he had been working against me all along.
How naïve I had been.
"Sister! She's awake!" I heard Tanya's voice calling out as she rushed toward me.
"Oh my God, you're right!" I looked up to see Tara approaching as well. The two of them embraced me in a warm bear hug, which I gratefully returned.
"Thank goodness you're okay. I was so worried about what they'd done to you since you were out cold for an entire day," Tara said, a quiver in her voice.
A whole day? That seemed like an eternity.
"I'm fine. See?" I assured them as we broke the hug.
"Did Alok bring you here too?" I inquired, and they nodded.
"He dragged me in here and told me to keep quiet," Tanya explained. "But thankfully, he didn't use any kind of gas on me," she added.
"Yes, I was aware that you were taken away; your mother reached out to me," I replied.
"She must be really worried," Tanya remarked.
"Don't fret. If you're safe, she'll be just fine," I said, smiling as I gently ran my fingers through her hair.
"What about you, Tara?" I inquired.
"He treated me the same way he treated you," Tara responded. "But I'm curious—why did he do that to me?" she added.
"Perhaps he wanted to shift everyone's focus onto you," I suggested, noticing her puzzled expression.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked.
"Your ex-fiancé, Anirudh Sunak, was frantic when he learned you were missing. He even tried to pin the blame on Adhrit since he was the last person you were seen with," I explained, watching her face go pale with shock.
"Anirudh did that?" she asked, bewildered, and I nodded.
Just as she was about to ask me something else, Tanya interjected.
"Excuse me, I don't know you, but whoever this Anirudh is, he shouldn't be blaming Mr. Handsome like that."
"Are you talking about Adhrit?" Tara asked, and Tanya nodded.
"But how do you know him?" Tara pressed.
"Because he's my sister's husband," Tanya replied, pointing at me.
This revelation left Tara staring at me in disbelief.
"You and Adhrit are married? How? When did that happen?" she asked, her eyes wide with surprise.
I wanted to bring it up sooner, but you looked like you were dealing with something heavy, so I kept my issues to myself.
"Why didn't you say anything? Do you think I'm incapable of handling your problems?" she questioned, and I shook my head to clarify.
"If you're finished with your little reunion, can we think about our next steps?" I glanced over and spotted Gina.
What on earth was she doing here?
