I stirred awake persistent like a hundred restless turns in bed, battling discomfort that stole away my peace.
It was as if an unease hung in the air, an intangible weight I couldn't quite identify. The sensation was perplexing.
I propped myself up and let out a frustrated huff, glancing at the clock-it was only 4 a.m., and I hadn't caught a single moment of sleep.
An ominous feeling loomed over me, casting a shadow in my surroundings. Seeking distraction, I made my way to the desk, hoping that some reading would ease my mind with the books I had checked out from the library.
However, after a few moments of reading, the apprehension returned. I decided I needed to clear my head, so I stepped out of my room and wandered through the mansion in search of fresh air.
Descending the stairs, I headed toward the swimming pool area, where memories of Adhrit warmed my heart, bringing a gentle smile to my face.
Letting out a soft sigh, I turned and made my way to the kitchen, where I spotted Itish, lost in thought as he stared intently at his glass of water.
"What are you up to?" I inquired, catching him off guard.
"Oh, I was just lost in thought," he replied.
"What were you thinking about?" I pressed, but he merely shook his head.
"What about you?" he countered.
"I can't seem to drift off to sleep," I admitted with a sigh.
"Same here," he agreed.
"There's this unsettling feeling; I just don't feel right," I confessed.
"Are you in pain?" he asked, but just as I was about to respond, my phone began to ring from my room.
For some reason, my heart raced as if I were being chased by a wild beast.
The urgency to grab the phone felt almost unnatural as if I had been anticipating this call, but I feared it wouldn't bring good news.
I rushed into my room and glanced at the caller ID-it was the hospital, and my heart pounded louder.
I picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Is this Sana Arora?" the voice on the other end asked, breathless.
"Yes, it is," I replied quickly.
"Please come to the hospital immediately; your grandfather is in critical condition," she said, and for a moment, my heart felt like it had stopped, leaving me weak in the knees.
I grasped the side table to steady myself.
"Are you still there, Miss Arora?" she pressed, and somehow, I found the strength to assure her that I would head to the hospital right away.
The moment the phone disconnected, I found myself frozen, staring into space, with no idea how long I had been standing there.
My ears buzzed with a persistent ringing, a stark reminder that I was on the brink of losing my grandpa.
"Sister-in-law? Are you okay?" Itish's voice broke through my fog, but it took a gentle nudge of my shoulder to pull me back to the present.
"What's wrong?" he inquired, his curiosity piqued.
"I-I need to get to the hospital urgently," I managed to stammer as tears began to trail down my cheeks.
I quickly wiped them away with the back of my hand and rushed out the door.
