Juliette POV

October 20, 1900

"You look positively radiant, mummy."

Rose praised through watery eyes as she helped me fasten my veil to my hair. It was Juliet style, which I thought was fitting.

"Are you okay, my love?" I asked.

She hurriedly wiped her tears away. I cocked an eyebrow as if to ask if she was the one that was ready for this.

"I'm just— they're tears of joy that I won't be a child of divorce anymore," she smirked.

I rolled my eyes.

How in the world did I end up raising the female embodiment of Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt combined?

As if I manifested her, Poppy emerged through the door with little Charlotte toddling behind.

"Everyone is in their places," she said, "we are just missing our bride!"

Rose helped me manage my dress down the stairs and into the drawing room where my father was waiting.

"Does this mean I get to change my last name to Sallow?" she asked once we arrived in the drawing room.

"You can take any name that suits you, dear. You'll still be my daughter no matter what," I assured her with a kiss on the forehead.

With that, I left Rose to her maid-of-honour duties. I hooked my arm through my father's and stood with him behind the curtain that hid us from sight of the guests and, most importantly, the groom.

Just as the music started, my father turned to me:

"I just want to say, I love you sweetheart," he said as he toyed with the pendant of the necklace that was hiding my scar. My neck tensed, but he gave no indication that he noticed it. "I am honoured to be giving you away to, dare I say, the only man that could ever be worthy of you."

Sebastian POV

Ominis's tongue poked out through his lips in concentration as he secured my tie pin in place. I supposed I had picked the wrong man to help me get ready, but there was no one I would rather have had by my side.

Except, perhaps, my Jules.

"Nervous?" he asked, no doubt noticing how heavily I was breathing.

"Not in the slightest," I lied.

I was a wreck, thinking through every possible way that the day could go wrong.

It could rain, the flowers could wilt, the babies could scream bloody-murder for the duration of the ceremony. Juliette had assured me the day would be perfect, and truly it would be as long as it was her I was meeting at the altar.

Still, I couldn't help but worry just a little bit.

"You know, Sebastian," Ominis's voice cut through my tension, smooth as silk. "You told me you'd marry her the day of the troll attack, and I thought you were barking mad."

I chuckled, remembering how smitten I was even then.

"Then," he continued, "I saw the two of you together, watched you grow together, and I've never met two people more suited for one another. Except myself and Poppy, of course."
