"I expected better from you, Yuka." She stood in the dimly lit hallway, bandages wrapped tightly around her torso and forehead. Her father's face was stern, his posture rigid. He always had high expectations, and she had just fallen short of them. "You lost in the quarter-finals," he said coldly, his eyes narrowing. "After everything I've done for you, all the training, the sacrifices...this is how you repay me?"

Yuka winced, the harshness in his voice cutting deeper than any wound. Each word felt like a lash, reinforcing every fear she had of never being good enough.

"I tried my best, Father," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Excuses," he snapped. "This Todoroki boy... Not only did you fail to satisfy my deal with Endeavor, but you also fail to beat him years later. I raised a winner, not someone so weak she can't even make the podium."

"Todoroki-kun is strong, he's hard to beat–"

Before she could even finish her sentence, his hand moved swiftly, striking her across the face. The sound echoed in the empty hallway.

Yuka's cheek stung, and she felt the hot sting of tears welling up in her eyes, but she didn't cry out. She stood there, holding her ground, though the emotional pain cut deeper than the physical blow. How many times had she endured this, all in the name of making him proud?

"You're pathetic," he sneered. "I thought you were better than this. Clearly, I was mistaken." She saw his hand lift again, ready to strike once more.

She shrank back, tensing in anticipation, feeling the suffocating weight of disappointment and fear pressing down on her.

"Enough!" Todoroki's voice cut through the tension like a knife. The two Amanes looked up in confusion to see a boy step forward, eyes blazing with fury. Ren's hand lowered slowly, the anger in his eyes momentarily replaced with surprise.

"Stop it. She doesn't deserve this."

Ren turned to Todoroki, his eyes narrowing, a smile curving on his lips. "Shoto Todoroki. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Leave Amane-san alone."

Ren stared at Todoroki for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, surprisingly, he took a step back. "Okay," he said, his eyes darting between the two classmates. "But we'll talk later."

Yuka watched in stunned silence as her father turned and walked away. The abruptness of his departure left her reeling. Thoughts raced through her mind. Her father never backed down so easily, especially when he was angry. What was he up to? She glanced at Todoroki, confusion and suspicion swirling in her mind.

"Thank you," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Todoroki nodded, a light crease between his eyebrows "are you okay?"
