2100
Yuka sat on the nearly empty train a few days later, music blasting in her ears as she watched the cityscape blur by. Her body ached, but it was a satisfying ache, a testament to her hard work and the progress she was making under Gang Orca's rigorous training regimen. The vigorous day of training had ended, but unlike the first day, she didn't collapse after her run. Her weights had increased a small amount, and she could hold her beam of light for a whole second longer. That was enough to blast a villain to bits, she thought with a small, triumphant smile.
The train's rhythmic clatter was almost hypnotic, lulling her into a state of semi-relaxation. She closed her eyes, letting the music wash over her. Suddenly, the train jolted violently, jerking her out of her reverie. The lights flickered and then went out, plunging the carriage into darkness. Yuka quickly pulled out her earbuds, alert to the sudden change.
Passengers murmured in confusion and fear, some pulling out their phones to use as flashlights. The train had come to a complete stop. Yuka stood up, her heart pounding, and peered out the window. They had stopped in the middle of a tunnel, and through the dim emergency lighting, she saw the silhouettes of monstrous figures moving outside.
"Nomus," she whispered, her blood running cold. She remembered hearing the chaos and destruction they had caused at USJ and the terror they had instilled in everyone who had faced them.
Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and made her way to the front of the carriage.
People were panicking, but she managed to push her way through to the door. Using her quirk, she created a small beam of light to cut through the emergency release mechanism. The door slid open with a groan, and she slipped out onto the tracks.
The sight that greeted her was a scene from a nightmare.
Several Nomus were rampaging, attacking the train and tearing at the infrastructure. She could hear the distant sounds of battle—heroes and police fighting back, trying to contain the chaos.
Yuka activated her quirk, her body glowing with a bright, almost blinding light. The Nomus turned their attention to her, their grotesque forms illuminated by her glow. She braced herself, ready for the fight.
One of the Nomus lunged at her with terrifying speed. Yuka dodged, her training kicking in. She blasted it with a concentrated beam of light, searing through its flesh. The creature roared in pain but kept coming. She fired again, aiming for its head. The beam hit its mark, but the Nomu only staggered, not defeated.
"Damn it," she muttered, her heart racing. This wasn't going to be easy.
The Nomu recovered quickly and charged at her again. Yuka ducked and rolled, her body moving instinctively. She aimed another beam at its legs, trying to slow it down. The Nomu stumbled but remained upright, its regeneration kicking in almost immediately.
