Chapter 24
Nobody fucking moveAoyama, Tokyo
Ian x JK HouseKali's POV
It feels like I've been lying down for days. Maybe I have. After I told my brother what happened, I stayed in this room. I could hear Kazuo and Ian argue downstairs. It was deafening. Then I fell asleep. Now that I think about it, I have no idea where I am. What is this house? Probably Ian's side house in Tokyo. I feel like this was all a bad dream. Am I dizzy? I'm dizzy. This is a mess. "Fuck," I sigh. The lights are out, and I can't see anything but hear someone coming up the stairs. I clutch the covers and hide under them. The door opens, and I hear footsteps coming from near the bed I'm in.
"Baby," I hear Ian call me. I remember his eyes and the way he looked at me when I was under my uncle, crying. He sighs when I don't answer. "I... Kali. I'm sorry to rush you, but I need you to come with me," he says.
I pull the blanket down, looking at him. He seems calm and stern, but I know he's in trouble. I don't even ask him where he wants to take me. I don't want to go anywhere yet. "When?"
"Now. Let's go now if you can," he asks.
Then I realize that he hasn't laid an eye on me and it makes me feel lonely. I get that I must look ugly to him now...But then why would he want me to go with him? He must pity me a lot. "I don't know..." I tell him, afraid of his reaction. "I don't want... I don't want to see anyone. I don't want to face anyone. I want to rest with you... Please?" I ask, reaching for his hand.
He still doesn't look at me, but I can feel him soften. "Alright, we'll do that." His tone is so soft and sweet that it almost makes up for the lack of eye contact. He's about to leave the room again when I grab his jacket. He clears his throat. "I'll be back, don't worry," he says as if he could read my mind.
"Why won't you look at me?"
He pauses, his head lightly tilting to the side. He won't answer. I know him too well. "I'll be back," he repeats and walks out.
Narrator's POV
Ian quietly shut the door and looked up, holding back from raging. He had murderous thoughts every time he saw her broken eyes. He sighed deeply before going down the stairs. Kazuo and Jey were talking.
Jey looked at Ian. "Your brother keeps spamming, and he said he'll come here," he warned.
Ian rubbed his face, frustrated. "Tell him that I'll kill him if he comes near here. And I was hoping you could buy me some time. I can't meet with Kenichi yet," he asked Kazuo.
The heir's eyes were red. He was lost and unsure of what to do. If he could, he would kill his uncle himself. "I'll get you the time you need," he assured even though he had no plan. "How long?"
Ian slightly bowed to thank Kazuo. "Give me two days," he asked. He turned to Jey again. "During that time, I don't want anyone coming here. She..." He started, taking a deep breath. "She wants to rest. Understood?"
Jey nodded. Kazuo ran his hand through his hair. He wanted to talk to her but couldn't face her, feeling guilty for leaving her alone. He stood up, gesturing for Jey to follow. "Let's go. You'll help me stall with my father," he decided. They headed to the door, and Kazuo finally turned to Ian. "Tell her that I'm sorry," he requested.
Without a word, Ian nodded. They left, and Ian was alone with his thoughts in the living room. He stood there for a few minutes until he could return upstairs. He opened the bedroom door, finding Kali sitting in the dark again. He quietly walked to her and sat at her side.
