Chapter 42
The wanker ain't bulletproof.

•The next day•

Yakuza Village, Tokyo
Soma House

"Will you handle Akui the same way you handled Kyo?" Kazuo sarcastically asked Ian, sipping on his cup. "I'd rather we don't kill the man. He might have valuable information on my mother."

"I can also kill your mother if that can help." Ian was serious. He didn't like Lady Shinoda in the first place. "My gun trigger is itchy lately."

Kazuo glared at him. "You let me handle my mother the way I want. Don't step in."

Ian shrugged, looking through his many missed texts for Jey. "Don't take too long, or I just might," he smiled.

Jey: The prison plan is working. I spotted 13 traitors. I'll keep you updated. When are you coming back? How is it going over there?

Ian didn't want to reply yet. He knew about the imposters. That's the reason why he orchestrated the whole police drama. That allowed him to identify them and gave the Yakuza time to establish a better deal. After he was assumedly thrown in prison, a dozen DPR members became unstable and hungry for power. A guerilla started in Seoul within the Mafia and other criminal organizations. It was nothing Jey couldn't handle, but Ian couldn't wait to go home and punish his backstabbers. But he couldn't leave without Kali.

"You're being impatient," Kazuo stated. "Do you have a plan for Akui? He's hard to kill."

Ian raised an eyebrow, visible judgment on his face. "The wanker ain't bulletproof."

"Wanker!" A small voice repeated, walking in and carrying a fox plushie. Kyoko had woken up, and the maid planned to bring her to shower, but Kyoko decided otherwise.

Kazuo facepalmed, rubbing his face. "Don't say that, baby girl..." he said, picking up and laughing girl. "Bad word."

Ian was laughing along, reclining on the couch. "Well, good morning to you too, sunshine. Learning more English, huh?"

The little girl giggled before she screamed. "Wanker!"

Shibuya, Tokyo
Train station

Mika happily carried her multiple shopping bags, sipping on her coffee with her brand-new Monster sunglasses on her nose. Haemi walked with her in a better mood than before. She wondered why JK hadn't texted but figured he knew her location anyway. Her other focus was not being able to contact Kyo. She had left him a few texts, but he wouldn't reply. Wonder why... So, instead, she wanted to contact her father. He certainly knew about Kyo, but what version? Her heart jumped when she felt her phone vibrate.

Incoming call from Park Junhyun

She took a deep breath to relieve tension before picking up the call. "Hello?"
You finally remembered that you have a father?
"The phone works both ways, Dad." He already shadowed her mood.
I'm not the one who's breaking a life-changing engagement
Haemi nervously bit her lower lip. She hesitated between telling her father everything or dismissing it all.
Seriously, Haemi. You and your brother want to complicate things for me, right? I already have so much to do with the hospital... Why are you making it hard for me?
"Because you made it hard for us. But that's not the issue. If you reach Kyo, tell him to call me."
He told me you cheated on him with that punk Yu Jungkook.
Haemi closed her eyes, inhaling sharply. "I did. He cheated on me with the whole hospital, but you don't see me complain about it, do you?" she replied with a calm voice.
You don't know the amount of money we're losing because of your mistake, Haemi.
"My mistake? How dare you. You were ready to sell me to the first rich dude you found. Kyo is a selfish bastard, but I guess that's why you two get along. He abused me physically and mentally, but it doesn't matter to you. You lied to everyone so much, pretending to be a good person and discerning yourself from what you call low-lives, but you're worse. I used to resent Mom for leaving us with you, but now I understand how you must have threatened her and terrified her. I'll figure things out with Kyo. Don't call me again. I don't want anything to do with you. This is it, Park Junhyun."
Haemi, you better not hang up on me-
So she did. She hung up, putting her phone in her bag and gazing at the supporting Mika. She realized where she was in the middle of the streets.
