Chapter 27
It's not that simple.

•The next day•

Azabu, Tokyo
Dynasty Hospital

Haemi was lost in thought in the taxi when the driver asked her to leave so he could finally go on with his day. She blinked, nodding. "I'm sorry," she apologized and exited the cab. She had dissociated again. It happened at times because of the insomnia. It was never too long, but sometimes it was awkward. She stood in front of the hospital's entrance, trying to figure out her excuse to be there. She didn't want to admit that she was worried about JK. She knew he was in good hands under Mika's care but couldn't help herself. She fixed her hair before stepping into the hospital. Haemi avoided everyone's gaze as she walked towards the VIP private hallway. She noticed one security guard standing by JK's room. "Is he not allowed to get visitors anymore? What happened?" she asked, curious of the man's presence.

The guard shook his head. "I'm not here to keep people out. I'm here to keep him in..." he explained.

Haemi blinked, frowning. "I see..." She excused herself before she was allowed in. The guard locked the door once she was inside. JK was standing with the help of his infusion. He was staring at the window, shirtless. He didn't bother looking at who visited him, busy calculating how badly he would get hurt if he fell from that distance. Haemi cleared her throat.

JK turned to see her. His eyes brightened at the sight. "Bab- Haemi," he called with a smile. "Are you here to pick me up? Can we go?" he asked, limping towards her.

Haemi could barely ignore her heart racing. She was happy he seemed better, and his smile was to die for. She cleared her throat, frowning a little. "No... Why are you standing up? It would be best if you rested," she said, crossing her arms. "Get down," she pointed at his bed.

JK nodded, obeyed, and sat on the bed. "I'm sorry. I got excited and forgot to ask about you. It was quite selfish of me. How are you feeling, Haemi?"

She was taken aback. JK was the one at the hospital. "I'm fine... But this is about you, isn't it?"

JK shrugged. "I'll be ok. This is only physical. But how are you feeling mentally? I'm still so sorry for what Hyung did to you..." he explained, eyes filled with remorse and worry. "I fucked up..."

Haemi looked down, not knowing what to answer. She had almost forgotten about that. "It's... This is nothing. You were shot in the abdomen by him. Why do you want to get out so early?" she asked to change the subject.

JK subtly smiled, figuring she was uncomfortable. "I was never comfortable in hospitals, Haemi. Remember how we first met?"

Haemi tried containing the little smile. "Right..." she said, recalling everything. "You'll have to, though," she said, glancing at the machines monitoring his heart rate. "It looks like you're having trouble breathing?" she asked him, eyes on the screen. "And heart palpitations. That must be due to pain, right?"

JK chuckled, shaking his head. "Nah. I think that's due to you being so sweet to me for the first time in a while," he said.

Haemi's poker face deserved an award. "I guess I should get out then..."

JK quickly grabbed her wrist. "I'm sorry. My bad. Please stay a bit?" he apologized.

Haemi chuckled, gently pulling her arm away. "It's ok..."

He sighed in relief. "But really, though... Can you get me out of here?"

"Not until it's safe," she repeated. "When is your brother visiting you?" She asked to avoid him at all costs.
