Chapter 31
I'm not mad

•That night•

Kyoto
Haemi's rental

Haemi stood by the house, arms crossed. "Just tell me where you're staying, JK..." she sighed.

JK refused. "It's fine. Just go inside and rest."

Haemi rolled her eyes. "Are you in this neighborhood? Why won't you tell me where you've been sleeping all this time?"

JK shrugged. "Why do you care?"

The surgeon chuckled. "Just come in. You're already here," she tried again.

JK was stubborn. "You go inside, and I will leave," he insisted. I just want you to be safe." They had been going back and forth for ten minutes. JK refused to stay in her rented house and wouldn't tell her where he stayed. How would she react if she knew that his house was the next one with a perfect view of the balcony she'd been using to relax and read? Probably not so well.

"From you?" she raised an eyebrow. "This is ridiculous. Come in," she said, turning her head and leaving the door open.

JK hurried to hold the door and close it, but Haemi grabbed his arm, gently pulling him in. JK stumbled on her, his hand quickly holding himself from the wall she was pressed on. They stared at each other for a second, thankful none of them fell. "See what you do?" he asked, frowning when he felt a slight pinch from his rib. He internally cursed at the pain from the wound.

Haemi looked up at him, hiding her emotions when he stood close to her. He pulled away first, holding onto his rib. She grabbed his arm and guided him into the house. "If you had listened..."

don't come back yet.

JK sighed in frustration at his brother's text. They had settled things, but he still felt left out. He watched the small TV in the room, displaying the breaking news of the Prime Minister mysteriously disappearing.

The police are investigating. He was last seen in Okinawa, an island known for its Yakuza ties.

JK chuckled, lowering the sound and putting his phone down. He heard Haemi finish her shower and come down the noisy wooden stairs of the house. She wore a simple dark blue PJ, her hair in a low bun. He smiled at the sight, a question in his mind. "Where are your glasses?

Haemi stood by the room before coming inside. She sat on the cushion next to his. "I got laser surgery," she said, remembering they met when she wore them. "Good riddance. I have less headaches now," she smiled and pulled out her small bag.

JK hummed, looking at her. "I liked them," he said. "It was fun to make you instantly blind at times," he grinned.

She blushed, remembering their first kiss and what came after. "Yeah, I bet!" she rolled her eyes, her hand still in her bag, and looked more actively for something.

JK looked away, a million thoughts about them rushing back into his mind. "What are you looking for?" he asked after the awkward silence.

Haemi lifted her back to empty it on the floor. "My pills," she said, starting to panic. "Do you see an orange box?"

JK looked at the little mess she made. "Uh... No," he said. He then noticed an orange container under the small table. He reached it and raised it to his eye level. "Is that it?" he asked, reading the box. "Slee-"
