Chapter 48
Are you happy?Jongno, Seoul
Four Season HotelJK and Haemi sat across from each other while Harin kept yapping. But Haemi's blush was noticeable.
She said her Korean wasn't good. That's not true. I remember JK saying her first language was Korean, or maybe she forgot it when she lived in Australia. Like Ian? That could be it. But why does Jichul look uncomfortable and angry? I'm so confused. Is JK going to propose? No way. Way? Her Korean is good. I'm so confused.
"Haemi," JK called her for the third time. "Are you ok?"
She quickly nodded. "Yes," she lied, analyzing his every movement.
"I'll be right back," he warned her before standing and walking to Ian and Kali, who were drinking each other's words.
"Sure..." Haemi watched him before she turned to the talkative Harin. She was telling Jichul about the new handbag she had bought. Haemi smiled, finding it cute how Jichul seemed interested in it.
After a while, Harin got up and walked to Kenichi to get to know him better. Jichul remained with Haemi in comfortable silence until he spoke. "How has my son been treating you?"
Haemi cleared her throat. She had nothing to complain about. "Very good," she smiled politely. Of course, she omitted the former years that drove her to hell. The recent one was paradise. "You raised him very well, so I'm thankful."
Jichul's smile saddened as he looked at JK and Ian from afar. "I wouldn't say we raised him..." he admitted, with eyes never leaving his sons. "JK raised himself by watching Ian... And we let it happen because Ian was such a challenge..."
Haemi was surprised to hear Jichul's voice for longer than a few words. She observed him, noticing the resemblance between him and the boys. They all looked alike. While Ian's features were subtly closer to Harin, JK was Jichul's copy. "You did your best, and I'm still convinced he learned from you two."
Jichul chuckled, shaking his head. "We were teens trying to raise a bipolar child. I guess you're right."
Haemi slightly bowed to him, feeling uneasy.
Jichul could feel her awkwardness. "I wanted to apologize to you. Our Jungkook had it harder than anyone else in the house, so he doesn't process things like others. Please be patient with him," the man humbly asked.
Haemi bit her lower lip, nodding. "I'm not easy either, Sir. I'm short-tempered and stubborn, and I have a big ego. I'll be fine with Jake's anger issues." she joked.
"I'm also sorry about Harin's loud mouth earlier. You must have been overthinking during the whole party. Don't worry. Our Jungkook isn't proposing tonight. We all know Kali would kill him for stealing her spotlight," he said, warmly looking over at his new stepdaughter he had grown attached to. "So, relax. Ok?"
Haemi acted calmly, lightly chuckling, but her face and ears were red from embarrassment and anticipation. Was she disappointed or relieved? Wasn't that even more stressful? She couldn't know when it would happen. Would it happen? "I'm relaxed! I'm just tired!"
Jungkook and Harin walked back simultaneously and sat at their table. Harin held Jichul's hand and smiled brightly at him. "We can go to Japan! Mr. Soma will give us a guide and a house!" she said with excitement. It wouldn't be their first time, but she couldn't wait to be there in a different setting.
"Amazing, sunshine," the older man smiled at his wife. "When do you want to go?" he asked, having her stand up to give the couple some room.
JK stared at Haemi intensely while she pretended she couldn't see him. "You're overthinking," he stated out of nowhere.
