As the confession happened a mere 3 days ago, Xavier laid in his bed, the darkness of night cloaking his room, but he wasn't asleep. His mind was clouded with the emotions in his heart for Daniel - incredibly high amounts of envy, resentment, and jealousy.
"Why?! Why?! Why?! It should've been me! Not him! He's nothing, an insignificant bug in the face of me! It should've been me! Not him! It's not fair!!"
As Xavier was thinking on how to "win back" Yune, he decided the best way to do so was to try to prove himself better than Daniel to appear more appealing to Yune. He thought this would work, but he knew too little about how love truly worked and what could be the result of his actions.
He decides to try and beat Daniel in homework and grades, while he shares with Yune his answers. He attempts this and does succeed, but it doesn't matter to Yune as she already gets higher grades than the both of them, so he tries in other subjects, such as music, physical education, and art. He performs better than Daniel, but again, it doesn't matter to Yune, not one bit, regardless of Daniel's educational prowess, she still proves that she likes him.
Each "loss" brings more despair and envy into Xavier, but still continues to fight a battle that's ultimately pointless. But then, he decided that rather than trying to "beat" Daniel, he would embarrass him and make him seem clumsy, to make Xavier himself better than Daniel. Surprisingly, he still didn't catch on that it's not how Daniel performs in school that makes Yune like him.
But regardless, trying this method works easily and flawlessly, his bag was open and his books spilled out, he replaced his cup with a prank dribble cup while no one was looking, and he even filled his bag with scrap paper, pencil shavings, and other bits of dirt and trash. However, around the third set up, Daniel realized who was behind it, he then confronted Xavier about his irrational behavior.
"Xavier! Why are you doing this?! What's the point?!" Daniel asks, clearly mad and irritated by Xavier's antics.
Xavier pushes Daniel away before explaining, "You don't understand Daniel! You took her away from me!" Xavier boasts, anger and envy laced into the words he speaks. "She's meant to be mine! I like her and she likes me! she is my DESTINY! YOU DON'T GET TO TAKE HER FROM ME!!"
Daniel after hearing this response remains silent, clenching his fist, his eyes cold and seemingly ruthless, as he incoherently mumbles to himself.
"What's wrong? You realize it now?!" Xavier boasts, with a smirk of arrogance.
Daniel walks forward as he held nothing but hatred for Xavier in this moment. It was as if the next words he had said came from so deep within his gut that it made him betray everything he stood for.
"Yeah... I realize it now, no matter how much I knock on the door to your rotten heart, you don't change. Even when I change for you, you don't respond. Don't spout that shit, if she was really meant to be with you, she would've easily known you by now, you delusional shit-vomit bastard... Who the fuck do you think you are?"
Daniel grabs Xavier by the collar before he could say more, holding a terrifying look in his eyes as his gazes locks with Xavier's. The gaze petrifies Xavier, instinctively shutting his mouth, no matter how much he wanted to open it to say something.
"You don't get to speak, bitch. You're so fucking pathetic, y'know that? You act so tough, you over-exaggerate your own abilities, but when it comes down to it. I'd make a safe bet that you'd run with your tail between your legs like a fucking pussy."
"Pathetic?! Alright! Let's go right now! LET'S SEE WHO IS SO PATHETIC AT THE END OF IT ALL!"
Xavier punches Daniel clean on the face and Daniel doesn't hesitate to begin to fight back. So they start to fight, and while Daniel is stronger and faster, Xavier is better, he has natural battle intelligence and skill, so he puts up a good fight against and even exceeds Daniel's performance. But before they could continue, the teachers try to stop them and they actually do stop after a while.
As they finish, Yune reveals that she had been listening in, surprised that Daniel had such a dark side to him, but she put that to the side for now. Instead she started off by asking Xavier: "Xavier, you have a crush on me?"
Xavier audibly stutters, while saying that he didn't. But Yune catches his lie rather easily, because he yelled it out loud in front of the class and she had been listening in since Daniel walked into the room to confront him. She even went as far as to say that Daniel was right to say that he was weak in almost every regard.
"Y-You sure about that?" Xavier says, clearly masking sheepishness and a wave of emotion.
"Desperately clinging to that withering ego of yours, huh? God, Daniel sounded like he was exaggerating, he really wasn't." Yune says, rubbing her temples in exasperation. "Listen here and don't say a word. I don't like you, so you can let go of that deluded fantasy, and watch it sink straight to hell."
Hearing the words he so desperately didn't want to hear, it nearly made Xavier cry, but he pulled himself together. Clearly hiding tears, but he excuses himself from the classroom before anyone can comment on it, he wasn't seen for the rest of the day afterwards. After those events and school ends for the day, Daniel and Yune walk home, talking about what had just happened.
"I... I regret how that turned out..." Yune asks, putting her hand to her face in regret.
"What? What do you mean?" Daniel inquired, concern laced onto his voice.
"Xavier... I feel like he could be a good person, can you feel that too? Or am I crazy?" Yune answers, wondering if Daniel could feel the same thing.
"Sounds crazy, sure, but he definitely can, it kind of hurts too." Daniel agrees.
"...Yeah, he keeps ruining his potential to be a good person." Yune adds, clearly observing who Xavier is, but curious as to what made him so arrogant and complacent.
"Yep, it's such a waste. But do you think he could change after today?" Daniel asks.
"Well, maybe, it depends on how stubborn he is." Yune answers Daniel.
Xavier arrives at his bedroom, he sets down his bag at his desk and sits down on his bed, looking at his bedside table, which has a framed photo Yune and Xavier took when they still had a good relationship.
"...Maybe... Daniel was right... I was being delusional... and people suffered for it. Maybe I should stop chasing Yune, after all... the answer is clear now." Xavier thinks to himself, before contemplating on it some more. Clearly, he regrets how that all played out, but he can't change it anymore.
Xavier would go on to stop chasing Yune, he now sees he kept fooling himself by clinging to the ghost of a dream. So rather than trying to pursue others, he focused on himself. To better himself for the sake of everyone.
